LDS -vs- Online purchases

I was not adding geographic stipulations to my point. Today I have to drive 40 minutes to get my tanks filled. If all LDS's went by the way of the DoDo it might be 2 hours but that would be life until more places opened up. Bottom line is, I would have access to air one way or another. It would be tough and perhaps expensive, but it would be there.

Wouldn't the demand have to be large enough to support a supply?

I've heard that scuba is supposedly a shrinking sport as it is. With stores going out (and I'm not talking just in areas remote from diving... saw the other day that 7 stores went out in the Orlando area in the last 2-3 years, only 1 new one in that time) that doesn't bode well for new divers getting into the system.

I would think in the long run supply follows demand, IF demand is high enough to make supplying that demand profitable. It'd take a lot of divers to make for a break-even fill station. Larger communities it could work, busier dive destinations it could work, not sure about elsewhere.

That is a pretty good point. I feel like there has to be a bsuiness model out there that allows better run shops to survive. I mena, it's not just SCUBA that faces internet competition, right? I, and I assume other people, like to go into a store, see and feel what I'm buying, shoot the ***** and have a good relationship with like-minded individuals. Hobby shops, comic book stores stil exist (2 in my town). Maybe I'll go get an MBA and devote my time to figuring it out Ahh, somebody smarter than me is probably already working on it.
