4 divers rescued when boat sinks off Pompano Beach

The Associated Press

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Four divers in a boat that sank offshore from Pompano Beach are safe.

Authorities say the four rescued early Wednesday morning were not injured. The cause of the sinking is not yet known.

Pompano Beach Fire-Rescue Capt. Randy DeVore says one diver made a distress call to authorities just past 2 a.m. The caller said their boat had sank. The men were found soon after and were taken to shore by a Sea Tow boat.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office used a helicopter while the Coast Guard helped find the men.

I heard of a missing diver somewhere off Miami too. Maybe that was the same as the Haulover one.

Sad to hear this.

Forgive my ignorance but is this common when it's mini open season? Today is the first day, right?

Apparently it is. People are putting down bets on the total # of deaths on the other board.

Akin to motorcycle season in the northeast (when spring temps first appears after a long winter freeze). The nurses and doctor's call it "Organ Donor" season. :shakehead:

Yeah, that sucks. IMO, it's easy to marginalize these types of deaths as unsafe/reckless daredevils who deserve what they get, that is until someone from the board dies.
