I've only been using Suunto Dive Computers for 11 months (Vyper, Vyper2 & VyperAir) but I couldn't be happier with them.
My regular dive buddies have a variety of Computers and not once was a dive called because my Suunto was so much more conservative than the others.
Additionally, any user of average intelligence can adjust how conservative the Computer is. The only skill required is a 3rd grade reading level.
As for durability, mine have taken some hits are are all still fine. The Vyper even got rolled under my Steel LP 120 tank on a dive boat and all that broke was the disposable screen guard!
Maybe you just resented being forced to use one brand?

Before you make harsh statements like this, you should look it up. I love Suunto but they are programmed to be more conservative than their competition. This is in the code and not in personal settings adjustments.

I bought a Suunto Cobra 3. The reason I bought it was because of the conservative algorythms used. I like to be extra safe because I am a litttle older and because I am!

I know it's more conservative but read the manual, you can dial it back if you want.

Even dialed back it is more conservative in its programming than most other dive computers. That is what I am saying. Yes you can adjust settings but it is still more conservative.
Thanks Scuba Steve. They can be adjusted, and even adjusted to their most liberal settings, they are still waaaaaaaaay more conservative than most other computers. We also used Suunto in rental and the units were constantly going bad. If you like you Suunto, fine. But don't impune my education to defend garbage. I know very well how to adjust the settings. Like I said, if you like it , great, but I would not recommend any Suunto to anyone who plans on diving anywhere near an aggressive profile. Not made for it and won't do the job. For anyone getting into Tech diving seriously, it would be absolutely the wrong choice. For serious Scuba Spearfisherman, it would be the WORST choice. They do make one good unit for Freedivers, the D-4. I have over 13000 logged dives and have used most computers at one time or another and by far the ones I've liked the least have been Suunto Cobras. I have also read the manual cover to cover and know very well how to read. It's my opinion, get over it ScubaBob.

I wasn't attacking you Scuba Steve. I agree with you. It was Scubabob and I wouldn't call it an attack, I was defending myself. I believe he was calling me too stupid to read the owners manual. Sorry if anyone else took offense. I was merely stating my opinion, albeit quite loudly. Again, I meant no offense to you. I guess I have a lot of pent up frustration toward the "S" manufacturer. I had to deal with those things and had to also try to sell them with a straight face and it took its toll. Sorry.
If you are going to dive agressive profiles and if you are a Scuba Fisherman, then don't consider a Suunto. If you dive conservative profiles and are not involved in spearfishing the Cobra may be the one to consider. Just because it does not fit your needs doesn't mean it's junk. The conservative nature of a Suunto computer may be exactly what some people are looking for. The conservative feature of the Cobra influenced my purchase, it is one of the reasons I bought a Cobra 3. Buy what suits your needs and use it, problem solved.
