As I commented, Jeremy, my post wasn't intended to foment a debate over the keeping of Torah, but rather just to offer an insight into why some Jews - and perhaps even some Christians - may decide tattoos are not for them.

It's much the same as examining why some churches use grape juice instead of wine for communion. I don't have to agree with their assertion that any consumption of alcohol consitutes sin for a Christian in order to understand it as the reason for their practices. Even within Christianity, the interpretation of which laws should be observed and which are covered under "liberty" is much debated.

Hoomi,

Sorry about that. I should have specified in my post that I was merely writing an addendum. People do need to make there own choices. I can not say that because someone believes having a tattoo would be wrong for them that they are wrong. Conviction must play a role.

Regardless of belief, people need to know what they stand for and why. I only wanted to provide some of my reasoning.
Thank you for some food for thought, I hope I was tactful and not too overbearing.

I hope to get a tattoo after I get certified this summer. The plan is to get the outline of a great white on my right foot and have it filled with a dive flag. This is only if the hubs will agree to it. I have one already and he's not too thrilled about it.

Yes I do, but no one really see's it now days as I have a tendency to be a grown up now and keep my pants on.
But it is a shark.

Well, if they're anything like any of these tattoos, I could understand not being too thrilled with it. Some of those really make me wonder just how much alcohol and low self-esteem were involved in the decision...

(No diving tattoos in that link, though I suspect some of the people may hang out in some dives... link contains no naughty photos, though you might feel slightly dirty by association...)

I thought the OP posted the question “Diving Tattoos - Do you have one?” It seems that some are getting off track with a heavy discussion about religion. I don’t think he asked ‘why’ you don’t have one.:idk:
