Hi, My husband and I were on the same trip to Cay Sol with Nekton Cruise. We're coming from Vancouver, Canada and are trying to get a refund out of them. Has anyone had any luck with this? Any suggestions on how to get a refund?

Thanks.

No chance of a refund.

They stick with the 'You can have another cruise' and a free cruise as compensation, however you will need to pay the taxes.

Flying from the UK that means, if the company is still going another £1000 plus trying to find another two weeks leave. Not forgetting the additional cost of this trips second week.

Tried the insurance company. No joy there. Same with the solicitors.

We have even emailed the director in Texas. Guess what? He didn't even reply.

On a positive note we will now get to dive Boynton Beach area for our second week.

Down in Key West (3-5 May) and then Key Largo (5 -10th).

Safe diving
Terry

Gr,

They appear to be canceling about 6 weeks worth of trips. With the way the company has been run (and their willingness to give a free cruise later) I doubt they have cash on hand to issue refunds. I would agree that credit card dispute might be your best bet, but a long shot. Certainly contact the Ft. Lauderdale Better Business Bureau and file an official complaint about Nekton.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Yes, definitely going to dispute the charge on the credit card. The unfortunate thing is that we only put the deposit down on it and sent the rest by bank draft. Hard lesson learned. Nekton looked to be a reputable outfit but of course from Vancouver we have no way of knowing what's happening on the ground. We'll be contacting the BBB.

Terry - We're in the same situation as you. Emailed John the Managing Director like Karen suggested. But, of course, no response. Flying to Ft. Lauderdale twice to try and make good of the two trip "promise" is extremely unappealing. And much like you, we're now thinking of going to the Keys. But I feel like it's almost throwing good money after bad. A terrible way to start a vacation.

We are using Captains Corner in Key West for the 4th & 5th, then going up to Silent World in Key Largo from the 6th to 10th. If you fancy coming a long more the merrier at least we will have a common theme to talk about - our future trips with Nekton ????

This is my 2 cents worth with respect to Nekton repaying you with a future "free "cruise. I'll bet John Dixon is not in the habit of making interest free loans to anyone. If he keeps your money and deffers service to you, he is forcing you to give him an interest free loan beginning at the time you made a deposit! Why do you think they don't allow you to make final payment on credit card? So you can't dispute the charges when they fu-k you over! Why should they be able to keep your money if they don't provide the service you bought? You bought a dive trip for May 2010, and you ain't getting it. Tell John Dixon to sell his fancy airplane, and give you your friggin' money back!

Hi Guys

I'm Terry's buddy on this trip, and a lot has been said about the ill feeling this has caused everyone concerned, myself included. Both Terry and I are now just going to make the best of a bad situation, who know, we may see some of you guys in the South Florida area over the next couple of weeks, so if your hear a couple of UK accents from two 6 foot guys say hello - I'm the one with hair :rofl3:

Diverdoug -- I agree. John Dixon at Nekton Cruise should give us a refund since THEY canceled the trip. But now that I've read some of the older posts about the repairs to the Pilot and employees not getting paid in a timely manner, I think we've probably lost our $4000 USD. I kind of feel like the last person in on the Ponzi scheme. The only thing we can hope for is a reimbursement of the deposit through the credit card company.

Hi, Terry and James -- We're most likely going to go with Rainbow Reef, since we're not familiar with the area and would prefer to have a dive guide (free with package dives). Our trip is planned May 7 - May 15. Will probably stay in the Keys somewhere, we're still trying to find a place. Would be great to meet you both. My husband says we can discuss our class action suit for Nekton Cruises over drinks.

Terry -- check your "Private Messages" inbox. I'll be sending you my email address.
