Hi!

I've recently completed the Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB) and the Deep Diving specialties (classroom and pool classes only) and I wanted to do both certifications on my next dive trip (The closest dive spot is 4 hours away), I told so to my instructor and he told me that it wasn't possible because each specialty must be certified in it's own dive, so it's required 4 dives for the deep certification and 2 other dives for the PPB certification).

My question is: Whay cant we do the PPB certification while doing the Deep certification? It's not like they are mutually exclusive, or I would be over tasked by doing so.

Is this really a PADI restriction or is my instructor trying to squeeze more money from me?

I'd thank any input on this subject, specially from PADI instructors.

Yup, PADI restriction:

Do not combine the performance requirements for two or more dives into one Adventure Dive..

Also are limited too 3 training dives a day.

Just be thankful they don't have things like 'Reg recovery diver', 'Mask clearing diver', etc, etc, ect all leading up to 'Open Water Diver'

Honestly, PPB and Deep Dive specialties should be taught at different times.
As a new diver the deep dive took all of my concentration and focus (as this is the most dangerous of them all).
As for PPB, I think I will spend the rest of my life "trying" to perfect it.
I may be AOW certified, but that does not mean I am advanced in this sport. I just have a little more knowledge to work into my diving regiment.
Good Diving

You can do both in a weekend...3 dives a day on 2 days, PPB is 2 dives, deep 4

If you did PPB for advanced its only 1 extra dive. Deep would be 3 dives assuming you already have padi AOW.

Best schedule assuming that is Day 1:- Deep dive 1, afternoon PPB dive

Day 2:- Deep dives 2 and 3

This is actually to your ADVANTAGE! You want to use the dives for one specialty to absorb as much information on that topic as you can. Combining the two would just short you two dives, and the focus would be diluted.

You should be pestering the instructor for EXTRA dives as opposed to asking for fewer, particularly if you paid for the course and the dives. It seems counter-intuitive to skip dives to become more prepared for your future deep dives, particularly with a foundational skill that can be developed by practice.

Don't be in such a hurry to grab your cert card and run! Enjoy the scenery and the ride...

do you want the training or the card?
