In PADI's course you collect a bunch of cards, pay an extra fee, and get an extra card.

In NAUI's course you master the academics and skills that are expected of a NAUI Instructor or DM.

I think that is different.

Besides, I never had a NAUI Master Diver fail a university (AAUS) endorsement exam or a check out dive, I never had a PADI Master Diver pass either. Granted the "N" is only ten to twenty.

Congratulations Parrothead!

Regarding the beating of the dead horse, ie., the value of the piece of plastic, from this discussion, I don't think less of the card. I think less of Thalassamania.

At least your bad judgment is consistent.

Thanks to all who posted. There seems to be some differing opinions and they all make a valid point.
As others have stated, it is up to the individual diver to choose specialties that will be a benefit the the to the type of diving that they will be doing. It is up to the instuctor to make sure that the student is proficient prior to signing off on the course. The student or the insructor can make or break the experience.
Is PADI's requirements light compared to othe agencys?... Quite possibly. But keep in mind this this is recreational diving.
Do I automaticaly feel that I am more qualified than the next diver because I have a C-card and they don't?...Definatly not!
Do I feel that there is still alot that I need to learn?...Yes, and I plan on getting more training as my needs change. I am also striving to learn something on every dive.

Congratulations Parrothead600.

The Master Scubadiver Certification is a big achievement so well done!

Definitely a great achievement, any exam that you pass is a great feeling and always takes work to pass, i appreciate how excited you must feel, can't wait for mine. Well done

There IS NO TEACHING involved in a PADI Master Diver certification, it is strictly a vanity plate.

It's a goal. For people who like the journey, it is nice to reach the destination and have something to reflect on it. It's not much different from those marathons where everyone who finishes gets a medal. It is still fun to have.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. Free world.

A very apt description
If you don't like it, don't buy it. Free world.
Trust me, I will not buy it. But I will comment on how I see it and what it says about the agency ... free speech.

The NAUI folks should offer crossover training for PADI folks. If the student doesn't think the training was far superior to what they received from PADI, the course is free.

Its called putting your money where your mouth is and could end up as truely free speech.

Not very practical, PADI Master Divers equivalence more closely to NAUI Advanced Divers. NAUI Master Divers are expected to be at the skill and knowledge level of NAUI Instructors. Very few PADI Master Divers (or for that matter NAUI Advanced divers) are prepared to attempt a NAUI Master Diver course, it's just not the same thing.
