The NAUI folks should offer crossover training for PADI folks. If the student doesn't think the training was far superior to what they received from PADI, the course is free.

Its called putting your money where your mouth is and could end up as truely free speech.

"You. Guy guy who spend thousands of dollars and however much time becoming a NAUI instructor. Yah, you. Give your services away to people who paid for instruction from another agency so you can prove your superiority."

What a ridiculous suggestion.

Then you wouldn't be giving away any free courses. Take the challage.

About as ridiculous as some of the NAUI claims made on this board. If the training is so superior that it would be highly evident to everyone in scuba, the student would clearly see the advantage of NAUI and pay up.

It's not a challenge, it's a massacre, you will wind up with a bunch of students who fail the course because they are unprepared for it.

How is your suggestion even on par with the others?

Thal is talking about how the course was designed (something he'd know about). NAUI's course is specifically meant to teach all the skills and knowledge that one obtains in NAUI's DM or Instructor course, less the education aspect. PADI's is not; it's not even a course, it's a card you can buy after taking some other courses, no combination of which necessarily equals a PADI IDC or DMC less how to teach.

They aren't the same course, nor are they intended to be.

I have no problem with PADI's card. I'm sure some people find it useful, and if its existence pushes them to learn more, great. But saying it's the equal of NAUI's is just plain wrong.

I agree with all that. But in the 3+ years I've been on SB I really can't recall anyone ever saying the 2 MSD's are the same. Have you?

I think the suggestion that a cross-over be created is basically a statement that the proposer thinks the two courses are, more or less, the same. You don't cross-over to a higher level.

Trust me, I will not buy it. But I will comment on how I see it and what it says about the agency ... free speech.

Fair enough, but those whose commentary is largely directed at belittling the achievements of others reveals a something about themselves. The OP posted his thread with a rosy glow about diving and life. It wouldn't have killed you to either make a banal acknowledgment or just ignore the thread.

Everyone knows you have achieved great things in the diving world, Thal. You don't have to pee in someone else's pool just to prove it.

PADI peed in my pool when it created its MSD program.

I applaud people obtaining more training, but this is not about additional training.

Maybe not in so many words, but like Thal I infer it from a number of posts (some in this very thread).
