So I've always wondered why someone would get a moldable mouthpiece until it hit me.
Do some diver bite down on their mouthpiece? That would make sense as to why some divers come out with jaw fatigue.

In any case I'd like to issue a poll.
How many of you bite down on your mouth piece
VS
Letting the mouthpiece rest in your mouth. I'm talking no pressure between the teeth and mouthpiece; just letting the mouthpiece's curve hold itself between your lips and cheeks.

I have a small mouth so I tend to do the latter :D
Never had jaw fatigue, and on a rare occasion I'll bite down on the mouthpiece when I'm cold or exerting myself.
I also use the standard mouth pieces that came with my sherwood regs. So no roof palate to help me.

So lets hear it

Edit:
Well I already messed that up. Clicked the wrong answer on the poll
=_=* It's not my day today.

Seacure Moldable Mouthpiece

i wear out more pool mouthpieces compared to my ocean regs due to biting, but I attribute that to the layout of the hoses on the first stage...my ocean reg stays in easier without holding onto it.

I have to bite down much less now that I have a SeaCure mouthpiece, but I still do a little. With a standard mouthpiece I had to bite down pretty hard to hold it in place.

Will your reg just fall out if you were to relax your jaw?

Greetings g1138 I bite down but have a relaxed jaw till someone or something tries to pull it free.
I have quite a good grip when I need to and do not take kindly to people pulling hoses!
I have suffered from jaw stress a few times but not very often at all.
My mouth piece fits me very well and I like it better than most.

CamG Keep diving....Keep training....Keep learning!

Moldable mouthpiece is perfect for me. The standard one feels too small and like a lot of jelly in my mouth. I feel I must "hold" it in there. Wicked current while descending got me looking at the moldable. With the moldable, it's like the thing I wear to bed to prevent grinding teeth while asleep. It just fits right.

Mine hang there although I need to come up with a better solution because I tend to come out of the water with a wicked underbite and it feels funny... Also tends to hurt my jaw trying to bring it back in...

I bite down, but not hard enough to cause any pain unless something is putting a force on it I don't want to have remove the regulator.

Using a comfo-bite, I can sort of let it just hang with just a little bite... so i guess its a mix of both.
