I am heading down to Singer Island arriving Saturday Oct 8th and leaving Saturday Oct 15th. I would like to dive a few days while I am there. I have been reading numerous posts about the operators in WPB and Jupiter. Sounds like the best operators are Jupiter Dive Center in Jupiter and Jim Abernathy in WPB/Riviera. Will there be enough divers during the week in order for the charters to go out? I have been to SC in the fall and found that people tend to dive only on the weekends and the boats do not go out during the week. If this is the case, it looks like the only day of diving will be Sunday Oct. 9th. Any guidance is appreciated.

What are the conditions like in early October?

Conditions can range depending on the weather and the storm systems that are pushing through.

The water temp in Oct. is still pleasant though and visibility is usually pretty good, again as long as a storm hasn't been blowing through.

For dive boats close to Singer Island you have a few choices in WPB/Riviera area. In the WPB/Riviera area I dive with Sandy and Vicki on Ocean Quest Scuba alot and can recommend them for a great trip. I've dove with Jupiter Dive Center and they are great and will be about 20mins drive up North. They are a good option because sometimes it's easier for them to get out of the inlet during rough weather.

Looks like you already did some research so you'll find plenty of info on most of the dive ops and pick which ever one fits the criteria you are looking for.

have a great trip!

Dave,
I'd like to help with specifics, if you would like to share more about what makes a dive the "ideal dive" for you.
This is something you could say I "speicalize" in helping people with, so either relpy here, or PM me.
Hopefully you are taking advantage of the killer deals the Hilton on Singer Island is now offering, or you are in one of the time share properties on the island....Having the major boats less than 2 minutes away, is a nice part of the stay here, as well as having the world famous Blue Heron Bridge virtually in your back yard, for up to 4 hours of free shore diving per day( which is better on weekdays--there are a lot of student divers on weekends, weekdays you have this to yourself!!)
Any way, let me know what you are looking for.....colors/advanced/advenuture/relaxing/big marine life/macro critters/ Goliaths/sharks/No Sharks/ wrecks or reefs, etc.

If you shore dive I am willing to be your buddy!

I don't think ill be able to dive charters

Both Jupiter Dive Center and Jim Abernathy are great choices: most of my boat diving is with JDC. If you find that these operators are cancelling trips due to lack of dive reservations, check with Force-E on Blue Heron Blvd (not far from Singer Island). Force-E does not operate a boat but acts a 'broker' and will find a boat for you if the shops you contact directly decide not to go out. Unless there is really nasty marine conditions, there is almost always at least one or two boats going out in the WPB/Jupiter area each day.

You are arriving during an excellent dive time. The week you are coming is during the October full moon. That means there should be lots of goliath groupers spawning in the area. West Palm Beach and Jupiter host many of these gentle giants on the wrecks. It's highly likely there will be enough divers that week to run charters. I have some friends coming to dive on Blue Tang and Emerald in Jupiter that week. You'll definitely want to tell your charter captain that you want to see goliaths. I prefer Jupiter over West Palm for the larger species of fish and plentiful sharks.

Conditions in October are generally very nice. Thermoclines are usually gone. Water temps are still warm. Sea conditions are typically calm unless there is a tropical storm.

As expected the SB member have come through again. Thanks for all of the information

Anybody willing to be my dive buddy and show me the ropes for BHB the second week of October? I have over 100 dives and consider myself a responsible diver.
