Who's using 100% O2 for deco?

If you're still talking about diving-- oddly enough no, mainly rashes. The females I'm aware of that have had skin bends have never mentioned excessive joint pain. I don't have any data to back these observations up, so don't think I'm presenting this with the facts it would take to write a DAN journal article, just sharing my limited observations.

I find this comment a bit out of character. It sounds like you're advocating letting someone else make the decision on the dive plan and you're just going to follow along?

I didn't read it that way at all. I see it more as an adapt and overcome course of action. I do marginally prefer 100% as well. Having access to only 80% will not stop me from diving. Even further, if I have to choose between full tank of 80% versus a 100% tank filled to 2/3rds I'll go with 80%. And more than a matter of cost it's a matter of convenience. My closest gas supplier is not the cheapest one.

Similarly, I dive a BP/W the vast majority of the time. I do still own a BC jacket and will use it very occasionally. If during a business trip, the schedule changes leaving an opening for a dive, I have no qualms about using a BC jacket. My belief that the FJ Cruiser is the most capable vehicle out there because it can take me to places lesser vehicles won't, will not prevent me from driving a Chevy Malibu rental when I'm traveling. I'll probably won't take the Malibu off roading, but it'll serve its purpose of transporting me.

Why? Even a AL40 of o2 filled to 2/3 will last a solid 20min of deco. That's more than enough for most dives, and if it's not, you're boosting He anyways.

More gas gives you more options both below and above the surface. I feel more comfortable using a full Al40 for 2 dives. I may not have enough gas to comfortably do 2 dives if the Al40 was 2/3’s filled to begin with. Earlier on this thread I posted about transfilling left overs to squeeze in a last recreational dive during stat holiday when no dive shops where available.

Answer- you're not.

I suppose, but by getting 30% more gas you're also going .3ATA deeper, so you're raising your consumption and the gain isn't quite what it appears. I can see your point, but I'm guessing there's a very limited selection of dives where this is a benefit.

Answer- you're not.

I wouldn't take an al40 filled with anything. All my stages are 80's. No one ever died from having too much gas.

What kinds of dives are you doing where you'd need more than 60cf of O2 (and don't need a booster for back gas)?
