As much as I want the Norte that is dumping snow in Colorado now to stick around and keep dumping, here's hoping it picks up some momentum and pushes Rina east, back into the Caribbean. All good news from the experts about the it loosing some intensity and beginning to look like it's loosing definition. Still hoping for it to fizzle out.

To Christi and all my good friends, be safe and be well.

It's not often that we're cheering for the norte... but right now we all are! :)
It passed thru here last night on the way. Brrr! We might get up to the 60s today, but not even the 50s tomorrow. :laughsnow:

About post Hurricane diving..........In the news 1-2 weeks ago was a story about how the digging for the new marina hit a vein of freshwater. They were warned about this and were supposed to have enough silt protection in place to protect Paradise reef but they didn't. I wonder what this storm will do to that situation. If it destroys all the silt protection it might be a disaster for that reef. On the other hand now they are probably gonna attempt to blame most of the damage on a storm. As far as the rest of the reefs you can most likely forget about 150-200 foot visibility for some time but it will get better. Although if you would like to inform us first hand how the reefs look have at it.

ALSO........if I remember right wasn't there visible shipwrecks on the east side after Wilma? Would be exciting to be on the first east side dives the next few months.

Hey and just to repeat: The Mexican Red Cross in Cozumel is gearing up to give aid and comfort in the aftermath of whatever happens, so while we wait, wonder and worry, there is something you can do to help: Cruz Roja Cozumel Como Ayudar :nurse: Sling some dinero at our Red Cross Friends down there and help them out, then you can say you DID something to help. :support: Its PayPal, so its Whatever happens, they will be out helping the people of Cozumel.

I now return you to your regular angst....:shocked2:
I actually had some difficulties finding the donation page. If you just want to skip to that, use this link after first logging into www.paypal.com: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/w...737ba21b081988562bf19d61623c669b34e5cd175ba4a

Wow over 24 hours before the projected landfall and someone has already concerned themselves about the quality of diving and what that means to their upcoming trip never mind the well being of the locals, infrastructure or the blessed dolphins.

To driftin' by, you're right of course, I failed to express best wishes to the people in the area, which I realized as soon as I posted, but I assumed I couldn't change the post. It was late, I was tired (even misspelled my desired username, will have to figure out how to delete my profile and re-register as "nventor"), but I assure you that I was/am concerned for the people in the path of the storm. Fortunately, the latest reports of possible weakening or dissipation are encouraging, and I also found this point made on weather.com to be encouraging: "Rina's hurricane-force wind field is relatively small. As of early Wednesday morning, hurricane-force winds extended out only up to 25 miles from the center of circulation. Therefore, any shifts in the forecast track could mean the difference between a direct hit to only a brush of tropical storm-force winds."

Hopefully, the storm will turn enough so that Cozumel doesn't get the strongest winds.

Still, nvnetor is new here, probably found this site after google showed this thread with so many hits today, as that was the original subject. I hope he has a good trip, nice time at the square Sunday night and good diving. Coz will need the business.

To Dandy Don, thanks for your kind words, as well as your response to my question, and I'll be sure to be in the square on Sunday night! Here's hoping for the best for everybody...

 No, just post in Support forum requesting a username change.

Hope they have electricity and all. It would probably be best to postpone, but if you're hell-bent to go Sunday, have a good trip. :pilot:

Tried that link, DD, and it errors out. Cruz Roja Cozumel Como Ayudar Don't you see a button right in the middle of mine that says "Make a Donation"?

Postpone? There is plenty of time to see what happens. This aint Wilma..... They will need the money with low season and lost time now. And my scuba stuff runs without electricity as does the boat. And if I *have* to drink warm beer to be in Coz, I would. So, anyone cancelling, send me the tickets. If it is bad, you might get to do trash diving, helping to clean up! Look for the bright side....

Ok, I changed my post to prevent the error but you're probably right. PEBCAK

Sure, wait and see. Long time 'til Sunday.

It's all good. Just didn't want to get a crap storm started about the diving before the storm even hits. Sounds like you're sticking to your plans and good for you! I'm sure you'll have a great trip and hope you report back to us all when you return.

FWIW, I got your username... Perhaps just drop the e all together? With just 2 posts, it'd be wise to make the change now. I did the same back in the day registered as jbone9 but after hosing up my PW and changing my ISP so that I wasn't able to retrieve my PW, I just created a new one account. Didn't like that username anyway.

Thanks again. I did find in the FAQ mention that users could request a username change (with the advisory that administrators "will require a very good reason to do so"), so I wrote and pleaded my case, following your advice before you even posted it. I remain optimistic that the storm will pass quickly without major damage and I'll be able to go on Sunday as planned, but if am forced to change plans I'll just go to Cozumel later rather than change destinations. Such a great place!
