We're getting into the usual pros and cons. Use a snorkel or not if you prefer. Who cares?

It's moderately less embarrassing to turn up on a scuba trip with waxed legs and painted toe-nails.

They have the right to their opinion as I do mine, but:

My legs were always waxed before I switched to laser. Then I never had to worry about it again. And yes, my toe nails are always painted and always will be painted whether I'm diving or not. I'm not the least embarrassed about it. And yes, I even wear some makeup if we go out for breakfast or lunch beforehand. Horrors.

My snorkel is in my pocket in case I need it. I've never needed it.

True. It seems like too many people judge too rashly based on a diver's equipment (splits vs paddle, snorkel or not, etc. etc. etc.). Unless the equipment is incredibly badly cared-for, inappropriate for the dive, or just bad, I will not immediately judge a diver's skills based on equipment.

I'll mostly judge them by their abilities underwater :wink:. PS I carry a snorkel.

Always interesting to read different takes on necessary/unnecessary equipment. The ardor with which people take a stance reminds me of that quote about faculty disagreements: " the fights are so bitter because the stakes are so small.". I'm still kinda attached to my snorkel.....been with me for over 20 years. Hasn't needed an upgrade yet!:wink:

Ditto. What's wrong with painted nails hmmm people :wink:? I have one in my pocket in case I need it or anyone else needs one/wants one. Am I going to use it anytime soon? Probably not.

Try a dive flag painted on the toe nails of a guy. Seen it myself. I don't know if he had a snorkel though.

Aren't waxed legs good for streamlining?:hm:

My nails will ALWAYS be painted but I haven't had my snorkel on since my OW cert.

I regret not taking it on our last dive trip though because I had a few nasal polyps burst and couldn't dive because I ran out of my nasal steroid. I had to buy a snorkel so I could go snorkeling!!! So I'll ensure I bring it on dive trips from now on so I don't have to use it. :wink:

:rofl3::rofl3:

if I have a long surface swim I use a snorkel. last time in Curacao we had a 150 yds surface swim to the reef so it came in handy. normally I'll just turn turtle and fin out on my back but I wanted to see if there were any rays over the sand flats.

always have it in my bag in case I need it. haven't painted my nails in years though.
