The ignore function is nice, BUT it doesn't work for mods, we are FORCED to take their crap. (If you know what I'm talking about you can comment, if not....) Netdoc knows of what I speak. Let's face it, many on here would not talk the way they do face to face. At least not twice.

I left the forums for a few years because of the BS, it is what it is, we have these autistic people on here with no social skills, I feel for them, but hey that is their problem. What happens in the cyber world is well.........

I'm sure there are many tales of Mods doing imperfect things. That's kind of the deal we all signed up for when we were born as human beings.

And seriously.... a few stories about Mods getting heavy handed isn't many when you consider how many reports they have to deal with on a daily basis. It doesn't surprise me at all that they started to ignore "the boy who cried wolf". Even if he DID, at some point along the way, have a legitimate report the shear volume of bogus reports already had him shooting a mile wide of the target he was aiming for.

When one user gets on a major whinge about another user they're usually asked to deal with their personal issues without moderation intervention. The Mods are there to police the TOS, not to mediate in personal disputes (and you would be surprised how often people request that) or to be counselors to people who could use that support but are looking for it in the wrong place.

It's funny how someone throws out a number of 80-90 reports and then suddenly it's "a shear volume of bogus reports". As far as I recall I've only reported this person 2 or 3 times.

Don't let a few facts stand in the way of some massive assumptions though.

The post I reported was someone posting in the new member sub-forum (introductions) and announcing that it was their 10,000 post and then going on about how thriving his business is ( as he pretty much does in every thread he joins ). It was OT and SPAM IMO so I reported it.

Trust me when I say, I am not a big fan of the person in question. However, the fact that you reported that post does expose your bias for him. What is wrong with being proud of his 1000th post? I have seen posts that added less value to the board than that. I truly recommend you try the IGNORE feature for a couple weeks. You will enjoy the board much more.....I speak this from first hand experience. I have only ever ignored 2 people and both only for a short period before they were taken off. It was just what the doctor ordered.

John isn't one to overstate the facts. If he says it's 80 then it was 80.

I agree John is a straight shooter, but read what he wrote:

... I went back and reviewed recently reported posts involving you. In the past several months there are over 30 posts that have been reported either by you, or about you. Going back a bit further that number tops 80. ....

Don't ignore the "or about you" part. Otherwise you are making up "facts."

Did you consider just PMing Beaver Divers and telling them you thought they were out of line or being a PITA? Or posting it if that did not work?

Not to nitpick, but how could his post be off-topic (OT) when he was the original poster? He set and defined the topic in his original post.....the one you are claiming was off topic. Just curious.

He also said he wasn't going to go back and figure out who was right or wrong in each case. I can remember a few report posts that I did for spammers who had just registered and started posting links to malware pages. I was kind of under the impression that it was a good thing to do that... not to have it thrown in your face one day as a bogus report.

Sure, and I'm sure I'd get a reported post for posting that. I was just using the feature that exists to bring it to someone elses attention. They looked at it, initially told me no problem, and then two days later "warned" me for using it.

It was off topic for that forum. The topic of the forum was for new divers and divers new to the board. 10,000 posts is hardly new.

Reporting Spammers is good. As an elite computer professional, maybe you can help SB establish better measures to keep them out.
