Sure, and I'm sure I'd get a reported post for posting that. I was just using the feature that exists to bring it to someone elses attention. They looked at it, initially told me no problem, and then two days later "warned" me for using it.

So the answer is yes you thought about it but decided to use REPORT instead.

It just seems to me that it resembles playing tattle-tell in the 3rd grade and crying "Johnny used a dirty word or Mikey won't let me on the swing set".

Its a nice tool to use when someone is getting hammered, a dog piled on or true spam. I have used it 1 time and I don't know if I have ever been reported, despite numerous heated discussions on everything from pony bottles to religion against multiple moderators. They probably think I am nuts, but they don't do anything about it.

Reporting Spammers is good. As an elite computer professional, maybe you can help SB establish better measures to keep them out.
I almost forgot about that..

Its kinda ironic that someone that claims to be just that still believe theres any point in arguing about how a privately owned board is being run "the wrong way" or even arguing with board member he never agree with - Id think hed have learned by the time he reach that kind of proficiency that doing so is no better than banging your head against the keyboard..

We do censor foul language, and additionally posts that fall into this category:

Yep, I got banned for a few days for saying a poster was an a$$hole. I know that's not allowed but he deserved it.
It's just the way I talk and I would have told him to his face. But what he said, and what's allowed to be said on SB in "civilized words" was far more insulting.
A$$hole? big deal. I guess you have to draw a line somewhere.....

The filter has been changed Hank - you can write ******* now. You just can't call someone an *******. Whore also makes it through the filter now.

Haha...
This is a good thread. I have a unique perspective. But I'll keep it to myself. Yes Boulderjohn, I understand that this provides no value (negative or positive) to the thread.

But, I will say this. Chrpai, keep up the good work. You're taking some of the focus off of me. I'm not saying you're wrong. :)

So, by that logic, is it ok to say "that is ****ing awesome"?

It must be ok. Surely they didn't let such an obvious word through the filter by accident.

-edit
nm, it filtered it. Funny, it's not filtered in the chat room.

Chrpai, Dude…you need to shut down your computer and godiving.
IMO the moderators have a tough job and a valuable role. The anonymity of an internet post is an invitation(for some) to say things that they would never say in person. Left unmoderated a few “flamers” could reallydamage the entire scubaboard as a place of entertainment, learning and yes, the SB business…online vandalism if you will. What's wrong with SB defending their business?
Heated discussionsare common in the technical-diving forums where the divers are more experienced, the equipment/techniques are more complex, and the egos can be somewhat “expanded”. This all leads to stronger opinions and someinappropriate comments, but there is still a lot to learn.
The only case ofoutright censorship I have seen was a thread over a year ago on aspearfisherman’s death in the Gulf of Mexico. To sum it up, the deceased diver planned a dive to over 200’ with astarting psi on a tank that equaled about 65 cuft of air. He disappeared beneath an oil rig in waterfar too deep for a recovery and was never seen again. In the thread announcing his friend’s death, his dive buddy outlined the dive plan and later defended it as normal andsafe. He even mentioned (and defended)drinking beer between dives. Needless tosay the thread exploded with those critical of such diving and with thosedefending such diving. There was a lot of flaming in both directions, but there was also an honest discussion about dive planning, bounce diving, levels of training, deep diving on air, etc. After a couple of days the entire thread disappeared…not just theflaming posts…the entire thread…and the honest discussion of this accident wasshut down along with the mudslinging.

whats wrong with drinking beer before diving?

Beer farts throw off your trim.

They are a bitch after you open you drysuit as well

Beer farts throw off your trim.

I have reported you for being off topic.

they do throw you out of trim, but not if you have a butt valve like I do . . . I can do the hammer of war with my drysuit on still . . .
