I did my Rescue Diver at 13 dives because I was capable and qualified from my prior life saving training. I'm a strong swimmer and used to swim competiively, so I had a good background there. I started the DM program in July 2010 and finished it two months ago. That's not exactly zero to hero. I don't believe in quickie training, either, but that wasn't my situation. My instructor saw something in me that other DMs and instructors saw, and I believe I've more than met their expectations.

What's diving have to do with competitive swimming?

When an instructor looks at me, I know exactly what they see and what their expectations are. It's not what you think.

But hey, congratulations.

I have just a couple of more classes left to help with and I'll be done. If I could just find a coule of more classes. Nobody seems to want to take classes with the lake cooling off.:depressed:

What I'm saying is that I've always been a fish in the water. The work that I put into my swimming, especially distance swims, provided a good basic physical conditioning that is beneficial for diving. I wasn't the usual landlubber trying something out of my element. And, I took to diving like, well, a fish to water. :)

You must've started the course just before they changed the dive requirement to start to 40 dives. Normally I would agree with chrpai that 27 dives isn't enough, but I'm sure there are a few exceptions. Particularly with your "watery" backround. As mentioned, I started with 158 dives--Fall of '09. Finished May '11-- almost as long as you. Had to get in swimming shape for the 400 since it had been 40 years since HS swim team. And I had some problems getting my Demo skills up to par, as well as scheduling problems getting pool time. Some just seem to get through everything quicker. What are your prospects for DM work now?

I may have, but I did increase my dive count pretty quickly shortly thereafter. I had 50 dives four months later and more than 100 a year later. We're developing a business here called Dive San Carlos and that's where I eventually will work, once I retire and close my archaeology business. For now, I'm focusing on developing my skills and improving my diving.

Congratulations!!:D

Congrats!! I'm waiting on my paperwork to go through right now as well. How long did it take for them to process it? I'm really excited and am yet another step closer to being able to teach others how to enjoy life under the surface.
