Thanks Tom. I took the regulator to my LDS today. He hasn't had any problems with any of the Flights he has sold - and as I said before, he has been a fan of Apeks for years. I can phone him tomorrow to check the serial number on the reg and we will know where we are. I have the box and if the reg number is the same as the box, then it will be the latest configuration.

I hope this will be useful to other Flight owners and LDS.

It sounds like the low pressure seat started to settle, which can cause a slight freeflow. This can be compensated for my adjusting the volcano orifice inward a 1/4 turn or so...maybe 1/8 of a turn. I would also retune the demand lever height, since this will be altered after adjusting the orifice.

All,
A recently released technical bulletin from Apeks on the Flight states that Apeks has a new 2nd stage silicone seat available that will address potential leaking issues as well as performance issues. When you bring your Flight in for normal service, the dealer should install a 2nd stage parts kit that includes this new silicone seat. If your regulator cannot wait for its routine service due to a leak, go ahead and take it in now and request that the new seat be put in.

Please Help Tom,
I Have just got back from the LDS and still no fix for my regs(3 months). They say the part is not avaliable, is this true, or is it just BS.
Is it possible for me to order/get it from the states? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Garth

Hey gunsrunner,
The part should be readily available. Why don't you PM me with your contact info and I'll have the new Australian Apeks Distributor contact you to get your Flight taken care of.

Resolution?

I previously posted on this thread as I have four complete sets of Flight regs for my entire family. We were experiencing the slow free flow problem everyone else has, in spades. After an overhaul at a qualified shop to install the new valve seats, all is well. We just got back from a trip to the Caymans, and we have all put over 20 dives on the updated setup and everything has been working just fine. This has restored much of my confidence in Apeks.

so, if you are seeing this problem, get your regs overhauled. More importantly make sure they are using the latest parts, not just whatever has been laying around the shop. Insist on fresh overhaul kits.

Would an AQ Kronos Octo work with the Flight? or do you have to use a Flight specific Octo? I want to assume that the IP is common enough with it to be inter-changeable with other octo's but this regulator appears special enough that I'm wondering if it may have other specific requirements.

Hi, I believe any octo should work with the Flight. I usually check the IP on mine at the beginning of any dive week and the IP is the standard one you see on any regulator. Anyway, I do reccomend the original Flight octo for its lightness and miflex hose.

Yes, a Kronos octo will work. The Kronos octo, like the Flight octo is pneumatically -balanced which means it can handle a fairly wide range of medium (interstage) pressures.

Very disappointed with my new APEX Fligth. It started to free flow (little) after the fifth dive. IN Chile there is no technician who knows well this regulator. Even at the store where I bought it, they coudn' solve the problem. It is a shame I really expect a graet regualtor, for travels.
