this is the weirdest thread ever. i dont think you guys even know why you're arguing. Its kinda comical, but also sad.

Some people have been following me on internet forums and personally attack me.

Nothing new here.

I have my "stalker admirers" (but I apologise to those who instead were following this thread and saw some interest in the discussion).

The stalkers bullies have won (and they will rejoice by posting more silly pictures and comments).

I have no more time to waste on this topic being filled with their abuse.

Ya. Its dumb. Let me paraphrase for everyone

Gian - I did this dive. I don't think I needed a bottom timer on it

Tony - YES YOU DID NEED IT!!

Gian - Why?

Tony - BECAUSE YOU NEEDED IT YOU MORON!

Gian - ...ok, well, why did I need it?

Tony - Because its a rule!!

Gian - Kinda. I didn't need it this time though. On other dives, sure, but not this one.

Tony - BUT YOU NEEDED IT! ITS A RULE!!

Gian - Why tho?

etc etc

Pointless.

The emergency would occur if he or anyone chose to dive with you. As to the dive, this has be covered repeatedly and if you need a refresher you can always read your signature line.

Do they let you post on CDF anymore?

Sad to say yes they do. They almost booted him based on his BS pertaining to Carlos' death at Ginnie. Cave Diver's Forum - Cave Diving Resource You really have to read some it. I would say it gets good at about page 35 and then really takes off.

So, I am pretty much done with this thread and Gian altogether.

Yes, and after that thread I was attacked and pursued to protect what or who and why?

...I'd say now your true colors are coming out.

"Piss poor decision" and cannot explain why!

Doing the exploration of the deeper section without the appropriate means to measure dive parameters is a piss poor decision and so is your defense of it here and everywhere else you go.

Doing original exploration without the appropriate means to measure dive parameters is a piss poor decision and so is your defense of it here and everywhere else you go.

Dive parameters were measured, charted, and surveyed and thereafter verified 400+ times by me and are unchanged to this moment (barring a cataclysmic earthquake or collapse in the cave).

You are attacking me around the internet to protect who, what, and why?

Not according to you.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

this thread has been split off from a side discussion in the Accidents and Incidents forum as it is discussing a totally different dive from the actual incident. Marg, SB Senior Moderator

The difference is between what constitutes foolishness/stupidity and what constitutes a calculated risk.

Today I went cave diving and before taking my rebreather down into the cave (having carried everything else down a long way), oooops, I realised I left the tapperware box with the rebreather Secondary pPO2 monitoring system + the Dive Computer + the Bottom Timer in the garage.

After a bit of pondering, I chose NOT to dive rebreather on Primary only (that was a quick and easy decision), unclipped the rebreather from the sidemount harness/buoyancy system, and went diving, on scooter, sidemount, with no Dive Computer, and no Bottom Timer, in a cave (solo).

Went in 600 meters, then back out 400 meters, then back in 200 meters, then back out 200 meters, then recovered the jump line, then around and about here and there within 250 meters of the entrance, then went exploring a line the very last bit (leading to a small dry chamber) I never dared to follow before with the rebreather due to size/buoyancy considerations, and then got out (having had more fun than if I had done my otherwise planned exploration rebreather dive for the day).

That was a calculated risk. The cave was known to me. The lines were known. The depths were known. The distances were known. I had trained before to handle a situation with no electronics whatsoever (i.e. total electronic failure). I had never done this actual dive this way before (without Dive Computer/Bottom Timer) and was wondering what could it be that I had not taken into account in my risk assessment, but it turned out that nothing occurred which had not been accounted for and contingencies planned for.

On the other end, to take your minor son who had no prior dive training whatsoever into a cave environment for which you as an adult had no formal training whatsoever, and had no way of knowing what to expect or what not to expect, and how to risk assess the environment, is pure stupidity/foolishness/death-wish (as in the specifics of this sad incident).

You just cannot make a calculated risk (and accept the risks) when you are completely ignorant of the risks you are facing (i.e lacking cave training, the Dad, and any training whatsoever, the son).

Instead, if you know the risks, then you can make a risk assessment (i.e. not being able to know depth/time in my case) and then based on that risk assessment make an informed decision in respect of the risk you are prepared to accept.

I suppose its easy to get the story confused if you don't go back and periodically check it.

Your story is so full of holes it's astounding. Some folks even think you made the whole thing up. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and believe you to be doing research in order to write some sort of book. I'll be eagerly awaiting my next trip to the fiction section of my library.

"then went exploring a line the very last bit (leading to a small dry chamber) I never dared to follow before with the rebreather due to size/buoyancy considerations, and then got out (having had more fun than if I had done my otherwise planned exploration rebreather dive for the day)."

I had gone already up that line except the last few meters going inside the chamber because I was afraid to hit the roof on the way in with the rebreather ("size/buoyancy considerations") due to the way the line angles into the chamber. Sidemount OC was easier/safer to do it (so why not!).

I have already explained this. The line leads to a dry chamber to the surface (zero meters).

A Dive Computer/Bottom timer as a tool is of no use there (not a hindrance either).

If you want to make positive contributions I more than welcome that, but I suspect you will revert soon to your prior behavior.

So, why are you attacking me on the internet?

Defending Jim Wyatt or because somehow you feel diminished by me???

I do not know him and have nothing against him and I am not interested or a contestant in Florida cave politics (and I do not sell/promote/market/profit from... C-cards, dive gear, or cave philosophies/dogmas/rules/courses/manuals...).

The only holes is the cave.

If you do not believe me, fine with me, believe whom/what you want - but pick an easier target for your attacks on the internet.

I do not believe you. It's going to be tough to find something easier to poke holes in than your stories but if they pop up I will.
