I think Ive got it the wrong way around. Although I dive every week year round locations are less than spectacular, maybe it's time to sell some gear to fund some trips. Times a ticking...

That sucks. I too had problems with every claim I made despite specifying and paying for "Replacement Value Insurance". Insurance companies and thieves have a lot in common in my experience.

My experience with insurance companies - as with a great many things in life - is that you really do get what you pay for. If you try to save money buying "guaranteed lowest quote" insurance coverage, you shouldn't be surprised when the insurance company tries to save money by paying a guaranteed lowest settlement.

We have Chubb homeowners insurance. It ain't cheap. We've never had a major claim with them, but know people who have. Friends had a house destroyed by a falling tree during Hurricane Sandy. Their home was a 1920's era Craftsman style home. The adjuster was there almost immediately. (Which was no mean feat, as anyone who lived through Hurricane Sandy will attest.) Not only did he declare it a total loss on the spot but he told our friends to make sure they only got quotes from high-end builders, citing architectural details such as mortise-and-tenon framing, quartersawn flooring, etc.

When the first three bids came in Chubb rejected all of them... they were too low. Chubb then had their own architectural consultant specify where certain materials and techniques needed to be upgraded in order to "do it right."

Ok. I'll bite although I am not a tec diver so my total is a little less.

My initial budget was $1000 I totaled it up last night and I'm just around $ 3000 including 3 backplates and wings eight tanks including two sets of doubles 4 sets of regs including 2 sidemount and a whole bunch of other gear

Did I mention I've only been certified for 4 weeks. But I'm done buying gear. Just going to dive. No really I am not buying anymore gear...well except for that one ebay auction ending Friday night.

Do you know how much you have invested in gear?

I have a rough idea. Less than my car.... I think. I don't have any really expensive toys like scooters or rebreathers.

If I had to replace the whole shebang tomorrow then the part that would hurt most would be the 7 regulators. Most of my diving gear is used or "heavily used" on a yearly basis so even the 2nd hand value of everything I own wouldn't be more than €3 to €5k.

I recently scraped together a complete dive kit for my daughter for about €500 above what I had laying around. That means that I have 4 complete kits. 1 technical, 1 recreational for myself, 1 recreational for my daughter and spares that I mostly use in the pool.

i just did the math and check the bills.... holly scuba gear 7800$ without calculating the 20/100 tax everythime i have to pay on the post .
now i realize that everytime i jump from the boat i take with me 8K i must bring it back safe .
last time i had money then i start scuba diving .
even if i won the lottery i will still not have enough money for scuba diving
