@Jax there's a lot of denial among some cave divers in regards to this. They want to blame the internet rather themselves for being gossipers. No chance of correcting this until they identify the real problem. That's def not ScubaBoard or the internet.

I agree completely. No one is holding a gun to someone's head, to say - "be a butthole and make your organization look bad".

Organizations, and individuals need to step forward and say, "I hear what you are saying, and I want none of it. I will not be drawn into your drama, no matter how butthurt you are."

Imagine the impact if we all refused to put up with it? I am hearing from others that "forget him, that isn't the way it is". What if we were all to step forward and say, "This guy doesn't represent the way the rest of us believe. We eschew his opinion."

What an amazing impact that could be.

Wow.

I read the entire thread on CDF this morning, and the one that threw the biggest attitude was Jax.

Yes, two people called her an internet diver, but she also called everyone a bunch of turds, assholes, and dumbasses.

So, I got slammed for being an Internet Diver, and told I could learn something "other than typing on a computer" by the workshop Chair himself.

The reality is you probably could learn something at the event.

Jax:
I don't see this around Marianna (yeah, yeah, I know there is instructors feuding; I wasn't there, I didn't experience it, and I will not be drawn into it.) -

For someone that will "not be drawn into it" you're doing a good job of feeding the rumor mill simply by posting about the instructors feud.

Jax:
Before you guys bash one another -- the rest of us, the "run-of-the-mill" divers - are reading, watching, and wondering, what are you saying about me behind my back? If you cannot have professional respect for each other, or enact professional ethics and standards . . . . What do you think we are thinking of YOU?

We vote with our pocketbook. I hope you remember that.

You know, the sad thing is if you were to attend to the workshop you'd actually have the opportunity to meet some other divers, do some diving, and learn some neat things. You could even go on a guided dive in one of the systems listed -- responsible guides will be more than happy to scale the dive down to something within your comfort level.

But it strikes me that you just want to use the comments of two people as a way to stand on your soapbox and make this about you, and bash the entire CDS in the process.

I've been on a boat with Jax... she actually dives. Calling her an "internet diver" is such a cheap shot and it's designed to simply shut her up. She's not afraid to ask inconvenient questions but that's no reason to try and silence her with insults. Yes, she's probably spoiled here on SB where we don't allow such personal attacks or hijacks. The point of a forum is to encourage communication and not to slap people down. That doesn't mean we can't disagree or even be critical of each other's actions, but there's a line that shouldn't be crossed.

I know I'm going. Should be fun and informative.

Cave diving tends to attract some strong personalities that have strong opinions on how to do things. Always has, which is why there's the silly feuds.

Curt's an interesting guy, with strong opinions and he is always willing to share them. He's anything but PC, then again he also used to be work in fire rescue -- strong personality types in that field. But I don't think he meant it as a cheap shot, I think it was his way of saying that it will be an opportunity to get out and do something.

I know I'm going. Should be fun and informative.

Let's go dive Cow Friday afternoon. Do it OC, you'll be thankful for that.

If it won't interfere with the conference, sure.

No worries, @kensuf , I won't pollute the waters in your "strong personalities" pools with my non-rebreather, non-exploring little self.

I prefer to dive places where people don't talk down to others who are not as advanced as they, who welcome strangers and their questions, like Marianna. So sad there is not a place for those of us who don't dive like you, or think as you.

@Jax thanks for helping to make my point. If you read something in my comments that you find denigrating then that is all on you.
