I know this has been discussed before in years past, I would like to see what current tipping trends are for 2016+ in Cozumel.

The old standard (1996 when I first dove Cozumel) was $10 per 2 tank dive, and I up until fairly recently stuck to that. My new tipping amount is $20 per 2 tank dive due to using a higher end op that provides a much better service and more comprehensive service compared to my past ops I have used (lower cost - less service ops).

Curious if anyone else has increased their tip amount? If so what are you tipping?

I also still do daily tips in case the DM/Boat changes due to days off etc.

Would like to see/hear what everyone else does / is doing?

In my book(then), things are about the same....5 bucks a dive...

My personal standard is $15 U.S. Or 200 Pesos as a minimum for a 2-tank dive, $20 U.S. Or 300 Pesos for extraordinary service, special attention, etc. i started diving in Cozumel in 1990 when (I was told) the standard was $5 for a 2-tank dive, and I still will see on occasion some very old-timers who are still living in 1990 and still tipping $5. But these are usually people who always pay for everything in U.S. Dollars, are absolutely oblivious to the changes in exchange rates, and bitch because they still remember when $2 was enough for a Taxi ride anywhere on Coz.

I started diving in Cozumel in 2006 and tipped $10 USD per 2 tank dive. The peso I think was about 11 to 1. That equals about 110 pesos. For the last 2 years I've up to 15 USD per 2 tank dive. With the exchange rate over 17 to 1 last month that is over 255 pesos. I also tip at least 10 USD for a 1 tank night dive. I still see a few (very few) old timers tipping 5 USD while others that tip 20 USD. I always use the same dive op and always do other thinks for the boat captains and dive masters. Like giving them some gear or bringing them snacks as just something extra..

I also tip daily & last 2 trips $20 per 2 tank trip. For a while before that it was 200 Pesos or $20 depending on which I had more of on hand. Last trip those $20's cost $1.44 Canadian per US dollar and that hurt but I dive with DM's I've known for years & want to be as well thought of as I think of their service & friendship.

Same here. Unless there is something exceptional it's $5.00 per dive which is still $5.00 more than the zero being given by 3/4s of people who aren't tipping anything. For those tipping $10-$20 a tank, you the man! :coffee:

We tip MXN$300 (intended to represent about USD$20, which I guess at the present time it does not) per person for a 2-tank dive trip.

We tip daily. When I know the captain personally, I give the tip to him (which is really the proper etiquette). Otherwise, I give it to my divemaster friend, whom I trust to apportion it properly.

When the captain runs over my SMB while I'm on an obligatory deco stop and starts dragging me to the surface, I instruct the DM to keep it all for himself.

I hear you might also be providing your boat mates with excessive UV radiation....

We tip 20% or so.

Just one of the many exclusive benefits included when you dive with me on a charter!

I'm going to need to put that whole story together and post it. I'd be surprised if Jen ever wants to dive with us again. Heck, I was a bit surprised that *I* wanted to dive with us again.

Thanks for all the replies. And I agree, $20 is for exceptional service which my current def delivers vs my old ops lol!
