We arrive at 3:15 and we should be at the hotel no later than 4:30.
As Christi has already said try one of the many non-resort affiliated shops. If you have already booked a stay / dive package you could still dive the first morning with another shop so that you have a bench mark to compare the pre-booked diving to. :(

Sounds like you need to be contacting another dive op! What a bunch of Hooey!

I've been diving Coz for 14 years and am very pleased with my current dive op, Tres Pelicanos for what it's worth. If you don't feel like reading through all 100+ posts on the other thread, "Dive company recommendation for Cozumel in August" the "Top 10" I concluded had been mentioned there are in this post to that thread (you'll notice Prodive was not mentioned):

From what I can tell (and getting back to the subject at hand for these poor folks who started this tread seeking our recommendations and have been subjected to all of our insanity)... Here is the list of Dive Ops in alphabetical order that have been mentioned:

Aldora
Blue Angel
Blue Magic
Blue XT Sea
Bottom Time Divers
Dive with Allison
Dive with Martin
Liquid Blue
Living Underwater
Tres Pelicanos

They could just be booked up for the am dives. In any case, you will not be happy with them,

I dove with Pro Dive in Playa del Carmen in June. Their dive profiles every day were an 80-90 feet early, 50-60 feet mid morning, and 30-50 feet for both afternoon dives.

They wanted us to do easier, afternoon dives our first day to see our ability. After that, I could do any dive I wanted.

My guess is they want to see your ability before allowing you to to the morning advanced profiles.

That might explain why they asked my certification level (currently RD finishing my DM this weekend), my most recent dive (two days ago) and my total dives this year (85). Oddly, that didn't satisfy them. I've never seen this type of response from a dive op.

That is fine. However, there will be plenty of new customers who have short numbers of days to dive there. For example, 1 day in my case, as the 2nd day I want to swim with the whale sharks, 3rd day to dive in cenotes & 4th day to go home. So, why can't they have a 2nd DM to do check dive in the shallow in the morning for those new customers?

I've never heard of any shops in Cozumel with that policy.

There are about 80+ other shops to choose from. Try out one of the more seasoned and tenured ops and you won't be disappointed.
I agree with you, of course, but hasn't ProDive been around for like, forever?

Prodive---in CZM???.........If so, last time I dove with them was 1989---maybe for a good reason????............:)..........

As is every other dive shop on the island - it is the standard to start the day with an 80 - 100 foot profile depending on the divers on board. However, there are other client friendly and safe ways to "check out" divers. A good DM knows how to do this with certified divers that are not brand new.

The exception would be obviously brand new certified divers or those who have not dove in several years and don't have a lot of experience. In those cases, a private DM or a refresher course are warranted and prudent. I actually require this - but not for someone with the experience Mitch (the OP) posts.

There are other ways to handle late arrivals as well.

The good news is that there are many other excellent operations to choose from in Cozumel - most of whom have local DM's that have been diving the Cozumel reefs for many years.
