Thanks for your response. i appreciate that very much. My POLICY is to never restrict a dive as to time and it seems Ricardo did not respect my policy. I will deal with that. Thank you.

Dave, did you see my trip report on Cozumel 3 weeks ago where I went into detail about my diving experience will Aldora, mostly good but my last dive was cut short because we were paired with 2 divers breathing air while we were on Nitrox, and I was admonished by the Dive Master for staying below them on the reef because I still had plenty of gas left?

Here's the link to my trip report.

While we're at it, did you see my personal message to you about my dive computer transmitter that was not returned to me when we checked out at your dive shop and I'm still waiting for it after 3 weeks and several calls to the shop?

Sorry about your dive transmitter. Memo warned me about that and this dumb ass still forgot in my usual rush to leave today. Please know that we have not forgotten and will get it to you asap.

Back in the day I dove with XYZ divers… My daughter could not clear her ears and panicked in Devils throat. As an experienced diver I was equipped with the necessary things that made us visible as we were at Punta Sur so you can imagine the fear.. I was shocked to have another boat find us and the XYZ dive shop let us go up alone! Of course they are longer in business… Im a certified Dive Master, however never have worked as a Dive Master. My motivation was to be trained on how to deal with the unexpected. As my daughter was only 19 at the time… Now my adventurous son is 13 and Im scared to think that this may happen again.. I have heard horror stories about members of a group dive get sent up on their own with no safety Buoy nothing?? Really?? I would hope Cozumel has adhered to the basics as we in the USA take serious? Any comments are greatly appreciated!!

Whats new on the Island? There are so many new shops popping up? Kinda scary, I dove BVI with only a few dives on my belt.. Again horrified at the DM, I had to chase him and grab his fin as he was not aware of my hose blew!

Great maybe more shops will consider the poor divers who love night dives the best and miss out on their trip because the shop can't get a profitable load at the time. That is why we guaranty night dives twice a week, even if it just one diver that goes out. Yes, like you we may lose a little money now and then--but we have been doing that for 25 years.

Yes, I call the highway from Cancun to Playa del Carmen the "Mexican Policemen's Benevolent Fund." Because there is a very high probability that you will be stopped to pay a "toll." They can spot a rental car from a mile away. Even if you were driving the speed limit, you won't win an argument over it. And unless you want to spend a couple hours at the police station before they let you go, just pay it. But to be fair, once you get tagged they seem to spread the word to leave you alone thereafter.

And believe me, divers who frequent Coz on a regular basis remember it. Like selling cars. You don't sell a man one car, you sell him several cars over his lifetime. I own a business and do the same thing as you and Christi. Half of my business is repeat customers. I applaud all of you ops who understand that without repeat customers...your business will vanish.

You really cant go wrong on Cozumel as long as you stay with an op using smaller boats with no more than 8 divers. There are some cattle boats operating so I would stay away from those.

The only bit I would quibble with. We dive with Scuba with Alison who has a bigger, fast boat, but never takes more than 8 divers. :)

Dear Chief,

8 divers per DM is the LAW and it seems that she is max'd out. We have a big fast boat too, one that can go out in partial port closures, but if we use it normally will take no more than two groups of 6 divers, frequently 4 and 4 or 5 and 5. Two less makes for a much better in-water experience especially if you are doing swim throughs.
