old regs. Factor in at least $150 to rebuild them, but it looks like it may be Dacor octo and I'm not sure if parts for that are still available.

Diving in SoCal I would seriously consider getting a ss backplate to take a lot of the weight off of your belt, if not all of it.

Personally I would spend money on the exposure protection first, then keep hunting for the rest of it

Thanks! I thought that BC allowed swapping of SS/ALU plates, but the info about the ref/octo is really what I was after.

I'm just starting out and also trying to move to Hawaii so I don't know what I need for a suit yet. 7mm sounds like a lot but that's what they seem to rent here. I was swimming at Catalina a couple of weeks ago and Hawaii last week and was trying to find the cold spots. But I know it's different 60ft below.

The Dive Rite bcd may be good, but the listing is typical Craigslist - terrible. Not really much info to go on. There are way better reg deals in this board's classifieds IMO.

I didn't get much information when asking, either, other than that I should come out and see it. The BC is the right size, and still seems like a good deal - if it's the right BC for me.

I wasn't sure about buying used - especially since I need BC/Regs/SPG, etc and the package deals seem pretty reasonable. But I'll check out used regs in the classified section.

I've had my eye on an Oceanic Biolite package, but thought the Dive Rite wing would give me more flexibility with weight balance.

The wing is great. What is on the other side of it? AL plate? SS plate? Transpac?

I used that wing for years without issue with AL80 tanks. When I bought steel tanks, I found that is was not quite enough lift for them (couldn't float it at surface) so I got a bigger wing.

7mm is the defacto wetsuit out here. Some years it might be a bit much, some times not enough but most of the time you can dive it year round. It's not uncommon to have temps in the mid 60's on the surface and mid 50's at 50-60feet.

I agree on the regs- there are a number of used regs available locally that are newer. You also need to make sure you can get them serviced, so are better off with more recognized brands (including non-mass market like HOG and Deep 6) that have service and parts available more easily.

Gear bag could be a good deal if in good shape. Those things have gotten pricey!

The BC could be OK but a 25# wing (I think that is what the Travel is rated at) is at the bottom end of what you might need depending on how much weight you carry and what tanks you are planning to use.

Welcome to So Cal!
