Arrival day was yesterday, October 3, 2017. We flew in on Delta Greensboro/Atlanta/Cancun. It was an early start, 5:35 am but everything went smoothly and we arrived in Cancun just a few minutes past 10 local time. Customs was a breeze (with more stations then Atlanta) although the button lite up when pressed so they inspected our bags. Only slowed us down briefly.
Through the doors and there was the gentleman from Carm holding a sign with our names (there is a video on the wesite that shows the path through the airport). Van arrived a few minutes later and we were loaded and on our way (69 dollars round trip plus an additional dollar for two bottles water). Just over an hour later we were at our condo in PA, Quinta Maya. It is on the water just a few units down the beach from the Omni. I can tell you the security at the gated community Puerto Aventuras takes their job seriously. Eric was a bit (ok a lot) anxious about mainland Mexico but even he feels secure here.
We arrived several hours ahead of check in so we dropped off the bags and headed out to get our bearings. Had our first meal at Papacitos in the village. I would give it a five. I had a cheese chili rellanos and Eric the shrimp tacos. The guacamole was disappointing without much flavor. Of course we are accustomed to Cozumel meals.
The condo itself is quite nice. Large and very well equiped, probably the best of any rental we have had. Kitchen stocked with enough dishes to supply a small army, pots and pans, dish soaps etc. Laundy room with large detergent and softner dispensers and a water cooler/heater with 5 gallon jugs. And more towels then I have at home. Will post some pics later.
That evening we walked to the grocery store Chedraui. Advertised as just outside the gated community it is actually a bit futher then that but not too bad. The store itself is fairly small in that only about half of it is groceries but we were able to find most of the things we needed. There is an ATM inside. There was a taxi waiting outside, just a wave of the arm brought one to us and it was a 90 peso ride home.
All in all not too bad a start to our trip. Going to a new place always has a learning curve so I thought I would post my successes and blunders.
