At 10,
My gf sat next to a lady coming home from Coz a couple years ago. She had just finished 2 weeks of diving. She was 81.

Hahahahaha!! Don't rely on your kids. I got fixed at the tender age of 24, an only child, my mom cried for days, but my cousins have spawned, so Mom has a wee one to poop in her arms. And barf on her shoulder.Almost 58. I stick to warm water and calm seas. (I am fearful of breaking my face or another part of my body on a ladder while trying to get out of 4+ foot seas.) I hand up my gear (though I agree with whoever said that it's not always as easy as it sounds - with current or surges). In general, more cautious so I don't slip or pull a muscle lugging gear. And I always take that full 5 minute safety stop.
I have an attitude of wanting to go out in a 'blaze of glory' rather than flat on my back in a hospital/nursing home bed. However, I'd like to stay in good shape until one of my kids finally makes me a grandma! (the clock is ticking - someone needs to get started!!!)
Perhaps your local dive shop wasn't the best place to get fixed.Oh, the Doctor was LDS and refused.
