looking for some current recommendations on purchasing some regs. Not a Tec Diver yet, although perhaps in a couple years I would like to be. Just started putting together a doubles backmount setup and am looking for some recommendations on some quality regs that will work now and into Tec if I do pursue that avenue.
I am located in Ontario, Canada so will be diving fairly cold water year round.
I recently came across the apeks mtx-r regs in the military line that are completely black, I really like the look, but know the look doesn’t make a great reg.. any comments on this reg or others would be greatly appreciated

I have some buddies who dive the "civilian" MTX-R and like it a lot. Apeks DST with 5th port / XTX50 works very well in extremely cold conditions too. Deep 6 is more or less an imitation of the latter. If I lived in North America, I'd probably join the official Scubaboard Deep 6 fanclub. In northern Europe it really doesn't make any sense. We have reasonable pricing for Apeks and Deep6 does not have official presence here (hint...)

It comes down to what works for you. Are you intending to do your own service? What can you obtain parts for? Are you having them serviced? What is convenient? Are you wanting to ship them?

There are lots of good regs....

I'm up here in the Great Lakes, and my cold water regs are ScubaPro MK-17/G250v, HOG D1 Cold/Classic, Poseidon XStream, and any of my Double Hose Regs....(had to slip that last one in).

Lots of folks like APEKS, "H" is a ScubaPro "twin", Atomic.....

Deep6 seems to have a following too.

Plenty of good choices......

Apeks DS4 is my all-time favorite 1st stage for all types of diving, paired with an Apeks 2nd.

What about the Halcyon/TUSA ones? Or is it Tabata?
Halcyon regs are rebranded Scubapros. Same kits and all.

I would shy away from the tiny reg companies and go with established options.

Same for me. Diving cave, deep air, and normoxic trimix with them. Easy to breath on, reliable. Even after a bumpy ride on an angry Atlantic.

I use TUSA RS812, hard to beat their breathing.A lot of high end popular brands suck or have only one or two models that don't. Be wary of going by just a name.
