And Blue Angel dive operator is excellent, better than Dive with Martin, Aldora, and Pro-Dive.
o_O You dived with all 4 in the last year, and feel qualified to judge?

I think most Coz Ops are excellent, and the competition is so tight that one has to select Ops based on personal preferences. I haven't dived with Blue Angel since their room rates doubled, but I'm sure they are still great - and the property upgrades supported by the increased rates were certainly a wise idea. The location and property really was going underutilized. I just like cheaper rates enough to relax elsewhere between boat trips.

Why does talk about Coz always end up about food?
That one does amaze me, along with the subject of this thread. I've always thought that eating in Coz costs more than it should, but I like cheap eats, too. The hotel I've stayed at the last couple of trips included breakfast at Mexicana, but I hated the walk, thought the fare was only ok, and griped if they weren't ready by 7am. I griped about late starts at Blue Angel the last time I stayed there, too. If I could get coffee made by someone else and quality pastries by 6:30am, I'd be happier - but I usually get a cheap coffee maker at Mega the first day, set it up each night to be simply plugged in, and I could get my own rolls there as well if I could figure out a way to keep the tropical insect population out. I am one of those who really goes for the diving, altho I do hope to help baby turtles again next month.

To reply to DandyDon, it's a given that my dive op opinion is based on my personal experience as I'm not running any Consumer Reports type of testing. I dove with Blue Angel on two vacations, and with Aldora on 1 vacation plus a few dives, with Dive with Martin and Pro-Dive on one vacation each. Pro-Dive limited the dives to 70 ft, which was wanting for an experienced diver. Aldora, the last time, gave us a nervous dive guide who limited our dive length even though we dove with large steel tanks. Blue Angel gave us the best experience with the greatest choice of boats and times. It's nice to be able to chose different times in the morning to board the boat.

I still think it's funny that the thread originator is basing his hotel choice on breakfast. Blue Angel's biggest advantage is its dock an easy stone throw from the hotel & cafe. Too bad they paved over the animals in the room floors.

Ok, at least you have actually dived all four and can justify your claims. :thumb: And you've logged more dives than I have. My top choice would be Allison if I was sharing a cab with several others, and could book seats. I agree, a 70 foot limit would be my last day with the Op, ever.

We’ve stayed at both Blue Angel and Casa Mexicana. To me the breakfast choices are comparable at both places for my breakfast needs. BA has some good tasty breakfast choices and CM has a good variety with the made to order eggs. I personally have never been overly impressed with the buffet at CM, it’s just breakfast and nothing special.

I will say CM has good coffee though.

I stay there because the wife likes the hotel, but I agree. The bfast is certainly nothing worthy of the hype it gets. I wish the island woke up a little earlier since all the dive ops like to head out so early.

I agree...having breakfast at 7am at Casa Mexicana and then trying to get to Tres Pelicanos by 7:40 is a rushed, unpleasant affair.

Blue Angel breakfasts are made to order. Light (bagel and cream cheese) to heavy (Diver’s Omelet consisting of
Sweet peppers, onion, spinach, mushroom, ham and bacon with melted Cheese holding it all together). As good as it gets IMO.
The divers omelet is good. Not sure if the cold potatoes is a local thing or not. If I remember they are also cold at Casa Mexicana.

I know. It was okay, a nice long spread, but not exciting.

If I had a wife, we'd stay wherever she wanted too. For North Carolina diving, we bring our own snacks, pastries, sandwiches, whatever and board at 5am.

Last week I was driving around southern Utah, visiting national parks, but all 1100 miles was scenic driving. I carried 2 sealed gallon jugs of emergency water just for myself, gave them to some Germans in the parking lot the last morning as I was 20 miles from the airport, but the first full day read "Next services 105 miles," so prepared well day by day: 2 quart thermoses of ice water, a pint thermos and a commuter cup of coffee, a dozen sodas for the week, 2 cans and subways in a little cooler I took so I could have lunch. I do get tired of subs after 4 days, but only spent $10 plus tax & tip for wrapping my 12" subs as 2 - 6" rolls with honey mustard in little containers. I mentioned that I like eating cheap & simple. It's just sustenance.

FWIW, the coffee is ready by 6AM at Blue Angel.
:thumb:
I could take some 2 gallon ziplocks to keep insects out of my pastries like I do on camping trips.

Sometimes Blue Angel will do a buffet breakfast. It depends on how many folks are there for the week. We had a large group stay there twice and they did a buffet breakfast both times. I thought it was excellent.
