Hi everyone, I'm diving with Geko for three days. I have one night dive planned. But that leaves two afternoon and evenings free. I'd love to see more of Bali, but not sure where to go and how to get there. Ubud? Candidasa? Somewhere else? And how in the world can I get around? (I'm traveling alone.)

Thanks in advance!

I would query Gekko or hotel. I never had trouble hiring car and driver and was pretty impressed by their driving and prices. Ubud is very cool with spas, temple, restaurants and traditional performances.

Indeed Ubud is lovely place or if you prefer more quiet place, Sidemen, just like Ubud 30 years ago. . There's plenty nice places around and on the way to ubud such Goa lawa temple, Bali safari, bird park, butterfly park and tegenungan waterfall.

There is lots of traffic in Bali , the mornings in particular are crazy. There are nice temples not too far away , take the advice of Geko. There will be no problem hiring a driver for half a day. We have stayed in Padang Bai and loved chilling around the pool and watching the backpackers come and go after the morning dives. There are night dives possible , at least there were from our shop, and other divers loved them.

Enjoy Bali.

My favorite afternoon excursions following dives from Padang Bai include Tirta Gangga, Lempuyan temple, Ujung palace and Bukit Asa. Of course, there are places I'm only sharing with friends and friendly guests that deserve good tips!

Also, James may get angry with me... How could I forget to mention Omang Omang's world famous Monday Blue's nights? More info here: Omang Omang Bar Diner, Padangbai - Restaurant Reviews, Phone ...
Not to cast a shadow over James' and Fran's fantastic hideaway, but if you prefer fish diners, Ibu Jeru does an honest job. I prefer getting to see the fish I eat before it arrives baked in my plate. Mind you, I don't eat fish, just looking looking!

Eat at No Name cafe. Home made gnocchi! And yummy Panna Cotta.
Hey Dirt,
Sorry for the bad news, but Warung No Name's been closed for 2-3 years. I used to love some of the food there too. It looks like someone took over the rent and is about to open shop as there are signs that new staff are for hire... Hopefully, we get more yummy options in town!
Anyways, it sounds like you haven't been in town for a while. Visit overdue?

Damn! Loved their food. I LOVE gnocchi and would always hit them up for my fix.
Yup its been a few years since being in PB. Yes I'm due for an Indo fix but GWS at Guadeloupe and Tigers and Hammerhead in Bimini are my trips this fall/winter. That will have to do till I get back to Indo.

I was going to do a guided walk when I stayed at PB last week, but it was a bit wet and I hadn't brought my boots. I found walking along the road out of PB towards to the White Beach was nice, avoid going on the beach road which turns off to the left and just keep going - the road eventually becomes a dirt track and then cut down one of the tracks off to the left to reach the black sand beach.
Puri Rai restaurant does cheapish Indonesian food, their satay is good and the pizzas there are huge! Omang Omang of course is a good option for food and the nachos were great. OK Divers does nice food, a bit posher and somewhat more expensive.
I hope you have a great time!
