I never did see what DD did. Offended somebody someplace?

This was the exchange. Mods will say he had too many reports, but this was the one that broke the camel's back. Ironic we're discussing this in the humor forum.

Planned deco on a recreational dive?

The issue was your comparison of going into deco and going into a cave. You said there was no such thing as "lite" Deco, just as there is no such thing as lite cave diving. Going a minute or two into deco is not a very serious problem. If you do get decompression sickness, it is a minor issue issue. Go an hour into deco, and there is a huge difference. In contrast, Go two minutes (100 feet) into a cave, turn around, and can't find the exit, you will die.

Decompression Sickness is a "minor Issue" ? How is that determined? I have seen people paralyzed from decompression sickness, even though they did not incur required decompression or do anything to violate their computer.

Those would not have been saved even if they had skipped 2 minutes of deco then.

As we've been trying to explain for a while, 2 minutes of deco is nothing. I can take many algorithms that will make those two minutes from my computer to be well within NDL (as John already proved). So what should we do, blame anyone that doesn't dive [insert most conservative algorithm ever here] for doing dives that call for deco stops?
The difference in gas load between 0 and 2 minutes of deco is hardly existent...

@Patoux01 Ignore dumpsterDiver. He is both trying to be obtuse and trying to troll BoulderJohn.

Plus, he's been banned.

@BRT Maybe, who knows. Probably he just got to be too much of a time suck for the backroom. Don't get me wrong, I really like him. I own some of his gear. Would love to see him back. Often wonder how his kid is progressing, miss the vids...

My personal position is that I don't much care about what happens in the backroom. I prefer interacting with the peeps on this side of the great divide. Whatever the adults are doing on the other side is of no concern to me other than I'm pretty sure that they spend a lot of their personal time keeping this place nice without overdoing the policing (too much).

Edit: Cuzza answered your question. (But I'm guessing that was just the final straw, not the cause.)

Everytime I see DD I think of dandy Don....

Interesting to get banned for saying decompression sickness is not a minor issue. I always liked his input. Boulderjohn apparently didn't.

We will never know the whole story. Add to that, the mods are a real mix. Over the years, I've had some of the nicest PM's from them and one or two that were nasty beyond imagination. I have unusually thick skin, never cared much about the bad, made some friends because of the good.

It is a two-way street, you need to put some of your own skin in the game...

We can't and won't discuss what happens to individuals banned but surely you all can see from recent events, that these things do not just happen out of the blue.

And neither do they occur because one mod doesn't like someone. The mods come from all over the world, ages, stages and genders. There are often fierce conversations/debates during determination of an outcome. The mods work very hard to be as fair as humanly possible.

No one gets banned for one thing. Or two or three things. It takes repeated violations of the TOS to get permabanned*. And oftentimes the majority of the community never sees the posts that precede the banning, bc we delete them as part of the cleanup process.

There are a few saints among the moderators (not me!) who are willing to work with anyone to coach and support them to stay in between the lines of the TOS. I’m quite literally in awe of some of my peers for the work they are willing to do to help those who want a home here.

*there are always exceptions that prove the rule - direct threats of bodily injury, for example, may dramatically speed up the process.

Edit: I forgot about spammers, too. But that’s probably obvious.

A mod who is in a thread will never ever moderate that thread nor ban someone because they feel insulted. We’re a little thicker skinned than that.

I'm sure they will not, but Boulderjohn was obviously getting his feelings hurt there, and I'm guessing when a Mod makes a report, the other Mods look at it carefully.
