The pilot in me loves redundancy. I always dive with two computers. I own more, but I always have two on the dive.
Currently I dive with a Suunto D5 with a POD and a Suunto Zoop with an analog SPG.I like having the same brand when diving. Suunto for recreational. Shearwater for technical.

Suunto for recreational. Shearwater for technical.

Why not use the Shearwater for both? There is nothing that my Suunto could do that my Shearwater couldn't, and it does a number of things better.

It was just a matter of when I bought stuff during my diving career.

I used to use a perdix AI and a Geo 2
then I decided Id rather have 2 computers the same and it makes gas switches easier ect, I found a perdix non AI for a pretty good price with 37 dives on it so I grabbed that at sold the Geo 2.
2 computers and same algorithm gets my vote. easy to use, both the same, same numbers just makes the most sense to me.

For me, redundant systems means having computers that mirror one another.

I dive with an Suunto Cobra (air integrated) and Vyper on the (wrist) and carry a spare SPG on a Suunto QD in case the Cobra dies.

I set them up the same way and the data I download from them is nearly an exact match. This means if one dies on a trip, I can continue diving with one and continue with the same system.

Two Petrels, same GF
No main. If Reef is on left side, I watch Petrel on the left wrist. If Reef is on right side I watch right Petrel

Combo Petrel / Aladin Air O2 worked until the first dive with gas change

2 ScubaPro G2's. One wireless and one hosed. They nearly mirror one another. I like having 2 of the same brand and model. One less owners manual to absorb too!

I would strongly disagree with that statement.

I use a Suunto Eon Steel as my primary and a Perdix AI as my backup. For Rec and non trimix baby Tec (sub 200ft) diving, the Perdix set at 45/95 is the most conservative of the two and will give you more stops to the surface. (Generally these ares sub 1 min stops so they could be "ignored" to follow the Suunto )

The Suunto prefers shallower stops and gets you out of the water sooner

I do like the Surf GF on the Shearwater, and I know if it turns to cr@p the shearwater will support my mental calcs to get me out of the water, whereas the Suunto would lock me up if I blew through my stops.

All of the above is based on 200 dives using them both together (the Eon having an additional 600 dives on it)

I personally don't feel it's an issue using different algorithms as long as you understand both computers. I have "ran mine" on DM5 and Multi deco planners and compared the outputs, I also Understand from actual experience how each one will react under water to real world diving

I wouldn't say either computer is "better" than the other - the Eon for me just less things I don't like and works much better as the primary information source

I was comparing them to the recreational computers like my Cobra 3 and the Zoop Novo.

Turn up your GF Lo, that will eliminate many of those shallower stops.
