Alternate here, but I’m a newer rec diver atm. All of my dives have been with people or shops that only had a standard rec set up. Ive never dove with someone who has a long primary to donate.

Not really, my alt is on a 40" on a rubber bungee under my chin

If I lose a reg, I can easily without fuss retrieve my primary. Its an OW skill which is taught and should be practiced Reg retrieval is easy especially in trim, no need to go to backup.

Getting reg kicked out is also a skills failure. Sorry no excuse

How is getting the reg kicked out of your mouth a "skills failure"? Have you ever been in low vis with the trainee cat herd before?

You haven't learned the "don't kick the reg out of my mouth" reflex. :rofl3:

Yes, lots

Never had a mask nor reg kicked out.

I don't believe in miracles, thus I'll but it down as situational awareness which is a skill, being aware of your surroundings and other divers and positioning yourself correctly and appropriately

QED: Skill deficiency

The day I surfaced with urchin spines in my hood. Was it that I was attacked by a fast moving urchin? Or maybe I wasn't paying attention when I head butted it?

Have you ever been in sub 3ft visibility? Try again bub, you cant dodge people you cant see coming.

Woo that's some arrogance dude. If you headed butter an urchin in clear water, shame on you. If a diver swims over the top of you in 3-5ft vis and kicks a mask or a reg out of your mouth as they side swipe you, that's on them.

Actually yes, and whilst on DVP's too - and yet we don't hit each other

If you're struggling with getting clouted by other divers, stop looking for excuses and try improving your skills

End.

You're not running on a DPV in water you cannot see 3ft in front of you. You lost me right there, you're flat out lying. 3 meters possibly, but not 3ft on a DPV without collisions. Running DPVs in three foot of vis would be a skills failurenon your part anyway, because there's no way you're maintaining consistent contact with a buddy and any margin of safety.

Yes END, I'm not going to be insulted by someone making things up.
