As a general FYI, there is also a specific discussion about long hose use in the COVID-19 environment going on in another thread: Long-hose in the time of COVID-19 .

How many times do you think would be OK before a policy is needed? My concern would be with why their divers are using alternate air sources so frequently that this would be worth creating a special policy for.

Oh heck, I dunno. I guess if I owned a dive resort I'd have to give it some thought. But I don't, and I won't. So I don't (and I won't.)
I wasn't thinking this policy was covid19 related... I was just imagining a dive shop getting it's crew together and brainstorming to find a solution to how to minimize problems with so many of their divers using alternate air sources. And someone suggesting "well, maybe if everyone had the same type, it would be easier for everyone to use them!"
I've never been to the Blue Hole in Belize, but I've heard the stories.
But it is. 100%. So I guess you are OK with the policy?I wasn't thinking this policy was covid19 related

The S Drill is only required if you learn properly and want it to actually work in practice. We are talking about people who learned hog looping on the internet here.Remember, part of using the long hose as the primary, and primary donate, requires an S drill.
The S drill is performed at the start of the dive, normally at 6m, donate then re-stow.
It's actually a procedure adaptable to rebreather diving, and not a bad idea with mixed teams. Donate the bailout regulator at the start, then re-stow. It reinforces the OOG / bailout procedures, and confirms everything is working.

O rly? I do an S drill just before going into a cave/overhead with an unfamiliar buddy... once. I'm not anal retentive enough to do it each and every dive ad nauseum with the same person. On a dive boat, I cover how they can get air from me... once. Again, I'm not anal retentive enough to cover the same item over and over again. However, I do manage gases for both of us throughout the dive, and I expect the same from them. My buddy and I will know each other's pressures at the end of the dive within a couple hundred PSI.The S Drill is only required if you learn properly
