I have one app on my phone (i messed around with the subsurface app but I don't find a use for it on my phone, just on my pc).
It has all my run/dive/hike/bike data on it.
If I wanted to, I could switch from Simrad to Garmin on my boats and have all that data there too.

Yes, you can put your Descent data into Subsurface. But, that is actually a negative point, to me. Not that you CAN put it in, but HOW you have to do it. You cannot download directly from the Descent into Subsurface. And, that is ONLY because Garmin dictated to the Subsurface developers to NOT allow it. Garmin required it to be done by downloading to Garmin and then exporting that to import into Subsurface.
That is actually not true.
You can simply use the USB cradle and download directly from your Descent into Subsurface on a laptop.
What is correct is that Garmin asked us not to try and reverse engineer their BLE download protocol. And given how incredibly broken and inconsistent the BLE download protocols are from pretty much every single dive computer vendor, I'll admit that I'm ok with that. The Mares Bluelink download gets broken with seemingly every firmware update and is super finicky. The Suunto EON Steel/Core download via USB is roughly 50 times faster (and far more reliable) compared to downloading over BLE. Etc.
Yes, it's neat and convenient when it works. But since I need to re-charge my Garmin after a day of diving, anyway, doing a quick download at the same time (and the USB download is near instantaneous) to me is the far better alternative.

As an open source developer, I appreciate vendors who support our work. Garmin and Shearwater are definitely among the best when it comes to supporting our little project.

Okay. But, I don't see how simply all being in one app is a benefit to you. I'm asking, how does it actually benefit you to have your dive data in the same app as your run/hike/bike data? Having it all on your phone is great. But, how does having it all in one APP benefit you?

Here are a couple of examples of how it benefits me to have my dive data in Subsurface. Maybe you can give me some examples of how it benefits you to have your dive data in the app with your run/hike/bike data.

Having my dive data in Subsurface:

- I can quickly and easily download via BT to my phone, while still out at sea (i.e even with no cell coverage), and then it is just "there" when I get back to my laptop and open Subsurface there.

- Subsurface-mobile on my phone captures GPS data, so my I can have the GPS coordinates of my dives included in the data that goes into my log (assuming I take my phone with me on the boat, which I always do).

- I can (very quickly and easily) check "how many dives have I done deeper than 100 feet"?

- I can check "how much time on the loop do I have on my CCR?

- What was the water temperature in NC when I have dived there in October of any year and what exposure protection did I wear?

- What was my RMV when I was diving in XYZ conditions?

- How many dives have I done in doubles? On CCR?

- Show me a map of all the places I've dived.

- Plan a subsequent dive immediately after a dive I just did, where the planner reflects the inert gas tissue loading I have from the first dive.

What are examples of the benefits you get from having dive data mixed in with your other fitness data? Obviously, the examples I gave are only for diving. Having other fitness data in the same app would be moot. So, what are you able to do because you have all that data in one app?

Do you do things like say "how many dives and runs did I do when I was in Hawaii?" How does knowing that you did 27 dives or runs in Hawaii benefit you? Do you want to compare your heart rate when you're diving to your heart rate when you're running? How does that benefit you?

Is there a way to import all my added data from Garmin Dive to Subsurface?

. Scuba diving is completely different (to me) than running or hiking or moutaineering or all those other things. Scuba is not a "fitness" activity, to me. It's a relaxation activity..
Well I dont know about you but my garmin logged a caloric burn in excess of 150 for my last 70min dive!! The sweat was pouring from my forehead on that one:D

I personally like to look at a single app so I know when I woke up to go pee and if my HR spiked so i can tell if it was stressful along with how many dives I did that day.

Really for me it is all just about a convenience factor and the app has a ton of built in options and it is extremely easy to use so I don't need to do much to track whatever i decided to do that day.

LOL. I guess I'm old school. I can't imagine needing an app to tell me when I pee'd or if I was stressed or how many dives I did that day.
It's remarkable the human race has lived as long as it has....

Hey Dirk,

My bad. I did mean "via BT". I like downloading during the boat ride back in. No way I'd be taking a laptop and USB cradle out on a boat just so I can download...

I do not know. I only have Garmin GPS's. No fitness devices. No "ecosystem" connection.

I have no Apple devices, either. I am not a fan of being trapped in an ecosystem. I prefer swirling chaos and open standards....

You dont need an app for peeing?? I dove 4 times the other day and without that trusty app I might have forgot! I hope they will upgrade the app soon so it might tell me how long I have left to live:wink:

The one big downfall of the garmin ecosystem was when it went down so did all the access to the data until they changed things around a bit. I still enjoy and would like to continue to use subsurface I just don't want to re-add all the additional details later.

I think i would have already placed an order for the MK2i if they had the bundle available but it seems that the pod is 3 weeks out. Im sitting here wondering if the bundle will save much if anything at all.
