Yes they are - a guy died in the water swimming south of town, I didn't see which boat picked the guy up but they were headed to a pier drop off point and the captain seen the guy in the water. Guy not hit, they said probable natural causes.

I just looked for it again but can't find it - it was a swimmer, a dive boat plucked him out of the water lifeless and brought him to shore.
The tourist is my friend David Key an avid extreme deep diver there’s no way he was “just swimming” in fact he went there to do a deep dive on the boat deep exposure and on David’s Facebook page David has posted past dives with them along with YouTube videos. This looks to me like some people are hiding the truth. If any of you guys can help shed some light on this with links or pages you saw the original story related to this please let me know David was a fantastic father, friend and solid guy that deserves to have the truth come out about his death

Just to head off posts based on a misunderstanding, Deep Exposure's deep dives are not the kind of rogue dives you hear about that are done by people just going deep without proper training or equipment. I have dived beyond 300 feet with them, and those dives were done strictly within technical diving protocols for those depths.

Maybe so but why would the boat David went to dive with and had dove with prior be saying they found a “swimmer” in the ocean that’s a little odd isn’t it coincidences happen but this goes beyond coincidence

Giovani is the name of Deep Exposure's captain that run's the larger boat. They will often stop at Villa Blanca dock to pick up passengers. It sounds like the victim was not diving off the boat but was found by the boat crew. Yes Deep Exposure endorses deep technical dives but they have an impecable safety record and are very careful about following proper procedures.

Uh not a chance David was just randomly “found” by the crew that he went down there to dive with. David also didn’t go swimming he was a diver he didn’t go on swims he went down there for one reason to deep dive we discussed it the week before he left. I’m a bit surprised by the posts and evidence that I’ve already posted that people are so quick to come to the defense of dive boats and are acting like this is normal

This looks like the article that I seen, I seen it on Facebook just like all the other news you see here:

Esquema Cozumel

"FOREIGN TOURIST DIED IN COZUMEL. HE WAS FOUND FLOATING IN THE SEA AS THE CAPTAIN OF AN EMBARCATION RETURNED FROM A BUCEO TOUR.
Investigating authorities were able to meet with 48-year-old Matilde M.K. who told them to be native to Panama, and indicated that the deceased was her husband David H.K. 55-year-old, native of Dallas, Texas and that they were hosted in a south coast house.
According to police data, around 14 p.m. this Thursday, 51-year-old Geovany B.C. serving as captain of the 633433 Beep Exposure ship, was returning to the Sand Pier Dollar located at the height of the 12.5 kilometre of the South Coastal Highway, when from its bridge of command it noticed that the sea in front of that jetty was floating a person's body, so it approached with caution to assist it.
The person found was immediately uploaded to the boat and moved to the cited dock while reporting the fact to Sub centre C-5, although being reviewed by paramedics from a particular clinic who arrived at the docks, confirmed that no longer I had vitals.
The State Attorney General's Office was immediately notified, elements of the Ministerial Police and the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) were sent for the first inquiries into the case and the body was removed.
The SEMEFO proceeded to lift the body to move him to their facilities for necropsy to find out the cause of death; they preliminaryly handled that he may have been swimming when he died for some natural cause."

The dock they came into is a stones throw away from a Navy pier. A death in the water I believe means federal involvement, Navy, Port Captain etc.... but yet the pictures I have seen don't seem to show the Navy or any Federal people and is blurred. Another picture I seen shows one set of double air tanks with a BCD attached, one single nitrox tank and several single air tanks (i assume the mix by the way the tanks are painted - common here) on the boat with I assume the victim on the boat. There has been little coverage of the incident here.

The area they say they found him is a snorkeling area, there's also a public beach - lots of people in the water in that area.

Deep Exposure has been around for awhile and is the go to place for tec diving here - I've heard nothing but great things about them from tec divers - a friend leads dives for them during their tec weeks.

The article says that the police have spoke with the gentleman's wife - I would think she would know more than any of us here and it just isn't right to speculate.

It's a sad loss any day that someone passes, my condolences.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Have you spoken with his wife Matilde? The news story I linked earlier said that she was on the island with him.

The news article I linked says that Captain Francisco Bacelis Chan was the skipper.

I made my comment based on what was posted above and I believe you. The owner of Deep Exposure does not use social media very much but I have alerted him to this thread and invited him to comment if he so chooses. He is not one to withhold information. Deep Exposure holds an annual tech week where two or even three dive boats fill with tech divers. Some of whom dive to 400ft+ It is organized chaos but his professional staff always get the right people and the right eqipment to the right boat and somehow everything goes off without a hitch.
So yes I believe you that David was diving and I am very sorry for your loss.

And the mystery continues

Here’s what David’s wife said to my other buddy notice she says he was scuba diving. Thanks for the condolences. I am not questioning their reputation or record I am questioning their story as it does not add up
