They did you a favor, in letting you know that they probably won't be around for the long haul. Stores that turn away business because they don't like where you bought something have a history of going out of business.

This is sad to hear. I did my pool classes last August or so and my open water sign offs a couple of months ago and felt the instructors were safe, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions (I had different instructors for both). I also enjoy the fact that they have 2 25' deep indoor pools. As a member I can go in anytime they're open and use the pools and gear to practice. Even though I've only done about 5 open water dives, I've been in the pool at least 20 times which has helped tremendously with practicing skills like mask removals, buoyancy, etc. I will say the general staff on the floor seem to have a high turn over rate. I have both good and mediocre experiences with them, but never anything terrible.

@Snakekid97 the packaging from the pictures and the bar code labeling are correct, the pictures are not stock, the seller has an established track record

there is no aqualung policy against servicing regs not in warranty, you just don't get free parts which increases the servicing cost a bit.

regs are rugged and fairly simple for most, they can last a lifetime if maintained properly.

If it were you, would you recommend using rental gear for a year or so and saving for a new one from a dive shop or would you take the chance with this deal?

Thanks everyone for the input! It's nice to have input from multiple people to think about. This forum seems very active and helpful :)

i dive used apeks regs I bought online, but i am also the frugal DIY type. for these regs, it really comes down to if the savings will end up costing you somehow else (ie they ban you from their pool to punish you for not buying regs from them).

Looking back, I slightly misspoke. Their email said "unfortunately we do not service internet sales." not *can't* but they gave no explanation as to why (although I would guess liability if it's not aqualung saying that) and said nothing else.

Kelemvor covered it very well above.

I would add that they may not want to get involved with Internet regs because they don't want to be in the middle of you being scammed by someone on internet. It could be another $100, or more, in labor before you find out its unrepairable. I've been in that position when repairing other equipment for people, but I gave them the talk up front that it may not be repairable or cost more than it's worth, and in any event I get paid for my time. I could usually give an evaluation inside my hour minimum.

I highly doubt it. Getting to the pool is pretty relaxed. All you do is sign a paper and check the box stating you're a payed member and walk on back. I try to go at least every other week so they all know my face and I've only ever been asked for my name to verify membership once. They don't check you gear or anything. I asked to try a hand-me-down bcd from my grandpa in their pool and the guy at the desk said it was fine. I was told I can use any gear I want in the pool since I payed for the membership and I'm certified. Regardless, I don't think they'd even notice.

also asked about internet reg via an email so wouldn't know it is me or the same gear anyways.

Bob, here is a ling to the actual posting I've been referring to in case you're curious Aqua Lung Pack Core Supreme Din - RQ131112 3661666335591 | eBay

If the dive shop is as unsustainable as stated above would I be better off ordering a regulator online anyways? Even if not this eBay post, maybe someday from a authorized dealer or directly from a manufacturer?

Thank you guys for being patient with my questions.

Pool membership? Hmmm. Is this the place with the two deep pools?

I don't want to name names on here, because they tend to do good imo, but with your location I'm guessing you know the shop?

Know of them. I’m the next state over. Just saw the pool stuff online.

deep 6 regs are a good value, but iirc even the scribble wasn't quite that cheap for a first and 2 2nds at the last BF sale.

Excursion Recreational Regulator Set

Curious where I could get these serviced. Even diver-supply mail in will only service the brands they carry and this doesn't seem to be one of them.

Looking for future dive buddies if you're ever interested. Have you tried Gilboa? That's where I did my sign off and plan on doing many of my fun dives.

Gilboa is a hassle for me due to bad knees and all the effing stairs. Buddies get to schlep my tanks for me. I prefer White Star for the walk in entry. Thanks for the offer. I’ll let you know if I’m out in OH.
