About half way through my drive to the east coast yesterday morning I realised I had forgotten my wallet.

I had enough fuel to get to the dive centre and back home, so that wasn't an issue, but I had no ID with me for the coast guard to get on the boat.

Fortunately the dive centre persuaded the CG to accept a copy that I had in my phone which they kindly printed off.

I get plain keys no remote electronics etc with a chip recess, ebay $15-$20, chips from the local locksmith $50 ish

DAMN those chip keys

First dives of the season!

What went wrong? Not enough sunscreen. Aside from that, everything was relatively minor. The main reason for today's dive was to work out any kinks or issues.
  • I had a new sidemount BCD. No major issues there, but I need to tighten the tank-leashes & some of the harness-straps. I also need to get more used to where everything is located, including the inflation/dump valves, and accessing the butt-pouch. I pretty much nailed the amount of weight, but need to move a few weights around for better trim.
  • I was testing new fins. Hollis H1. Nothing much to report here. My full-foot Sea-Wing novas probably have a slightly better flutter-kick, though these will be good for frog-kick & I like being back in dive-boots.
  • I was wearing a 5mm and 2mm (2 suits) and was still cold.
  • The only other down-side is I ended up using only 1/2 of 2x tanks (during 2 dives). Unfortunately, I don't control the schedule when on my friend's boat.
  • First dive with a used GoPro. The housing leaked a little on 30ft dives. Camera should be fine, either need a new housing or door. The light was extremely dim too despite fresh batteries. No complaints about the purchase, I mostly just wanted the camera.
  • The VIP stickers managed to fall off 2 of my tanks. Not sure how that happened. :(
The dive did what it was supposed to do, let me know everything I needed to fix, adjust, etc.

DAMN those chip keys the last 15 years !!!

Not recent, but had a lovely dive at around 35m/115ft and noticed something dangling from my chest D-ring.. My car keys and garage remote control. I’d hung them there when carrying the twinset down to the boat.

Damn and blast. The keys are now trashed and I’ll have to get the wife to drive a spare set over,,, grrrr. May as well complete the dive as there’s nothing I can do.

Had a lovely dive, about 90 mins with deco.

When back in port walked back to the car and without thinking pressed the unlock button on the car key. Well, knock me down with a feather…. The car unlocked!

Somehow the key had lasted over an hour at depth and the deco. That’s a massive hat-tip to Subaru!

The garage remote didn’t work, so I undid it, threw out the battery and rinsed the electronics under the tap. Dried it and left it in the airing cupboard for a few days. Inserted a new battery and voila, it worked!

Wonder what the max depth is for the car keys? No, not going to try it again.

I have a valet key for my 2018 Ford Escape. No electronics it in. Just a key to unlock drivers door. I will put it in a zip pocket in my undersuit.

I put a key to the canopy on my truck on a retractor. That way I can unlock the top and open my tailgate to get my rig off my back without contortionist moves to the ground.

My Pilot has the same thing. Lock the electronic fob in the car and put the valet key in a pocket.

My Land Rover key got soaked in tea when I braked hard to avoid a muppet that pulled out in front of me from a service road on my way to pick up my buddy. Some tea spilled out of my mug that was in at the cup holder, flooding the slot where I used to keep my key.

Anyway two hours later we get to the marina and I switch off the car while we unload our gear to put it on the boat and I discover I can't restart the car since the key had been sitting in a pool of tea for two hours.

Four hours later before my wife arrived in a taxi with the spare

I no longer keep the key in that slot when I have my mug of tea in the cup holder.

I always ask this-- when you use that valet key to open the door doesn't your alarm go off?

No!

Leaving a key in the car that is able to start it, does nothing for my mind
one key tied inside my budgies for water sport and one around my neck

I quite enjoy no remote my particular reclaim of a life that once was free
