Mares Abyss 22 Extreme Regulator

It seems that the Mares Abyss 22 Extreme Regulator is discontinued. I just bought this for it's cold water ability for a steal of a deal, but I'm wondering if this was a bad purchase and if this unit is inferior? Maybe compared to the latest and greatest it might be inferior but is there something I'm missing about this. Why is it being discontinued? I should be able to still get it serviced for many years, no?

the mr22 first stage is still in production and parts will be aval. for a long time. the abyss extreme second stage looks to be the same second stage as the current abyss navy. i am not sure why the abyss navy comes with the mr22 with the oil filled CWD kit and the abyss extreme came with the dry CWD kit. unless the oil filled is even better in cold water. i know the dry CWD is cheaper to service each year. i just got a set of abyss extremes myself and i am very happy with them, this makes 4 sets of mares regs for me

Are the second stages both fully metal? I've see some reports on them claiming to be but they look plastic, or is that just the coating over top of metal?

Thats just the coating over the metal you are correct. I think the extreme is the same thing as the 22 navy (I could be wrong but it seems exactly the same).

I have the Abyss 22 CWD Kit and I am very impressed with them. They are defo Metal!!
