Yesterday we "found" a decompressed scuba diver in the ocean and were able to bring him back to shore where an ambulance took care of him from that point. He is being held in coma for 2 days, serious situation. He and a buddy were spearfishing using tanks when things went wrong... Lets learn. 1. Scuba Spearfishing is NOT allowed in Cozumel. Please respect the regulations. If you want to spearfish: freediving only! 2. Don't dive with a hangover.

Was he just floating unconscious in the sea? Where was his buddy?

From the local newspaper: Turista descompresionado
After google translation....
COZUMEL, October 14 .- Unconscious person was transferred in red code to a private clinic, after having suffered decompression while diving in the roadstead of Cozumel.

The events took place around 11 in the morning, when the emergency center received the call for help from Captain Manuel A., skipper of the boat "Luz del Mar", who made the call through the radio of communication, to go to the port of shelter with Adam Karmay who would be assisted by paramedics.

According to information provided to the Municipal Police that went to the place of assistance, Adam Karmay of Israeli origin, ascended to a sailboat, which did not disclose the name of that boat, but operated a Captain Yam.

And that some foreign divers and allegedly illegal in these diving practices, which do not have any certification, provided the diving service, in the Cozumel harbor, just in front of the Puerto de Abrigo, but supposedly due to lack of experience, the Israeli tourist, they felt bad and after ascending from the depth of the sea, he suffered decompression.

So Captain Manuel, operator of the "Luz del Mar" boat, who loaned a fishing tour near the sailboat due to the speed of the boat, moved Adán Karmay to the vicinity of Puerto de Abrigo, where he was received by paramedics. of the International Clinic "Hyperbaric Chamber", who without applying the first aid and less oxygen applied to the decompressed, for the supposed emergency, they put it in the medical unit and transferred it in red code to the aforementioned clinic.

Until before the end of the edition, the tourist was struggling between life and death, after the disorder in which nitrogen dissolved in blood and tissues due to high pressure, after not having limited the depth and duration of the dives and the speed of ascent, caused the tourist to decompress, as mentioned by the captain and diver Manuel.

According to the article, the sailboat they were diving from, did not have proper paperwork (illegal). Does this mean that they opted to leave this guy in the water, and possibly die or be handicap for life, to save their a$$$s. If so, sad reflection on the human race.

If you found him does that mean you were spearfishing too (judging from your user name)? If so, can we assume at least it was not in the park?

I have no knowledge of the legal status of the sailboat. The dive "buddy" did signal us that there was a situation and had no intention at all to escape the situation.

Correct. We were spearfishing. Of course outside the park. My spearfishing business on Cozumel celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and I play it by the rules.

Well, at least he wasn't shooting our "friends" in the park.

Just in case it's not clear, I am not opposed to eating mariscos, as long as it's not the ones that we go visit regularly and take pictures of etc. :)

How is this diver doing?
Any updates ?
Has he been transported to a better facility
