Thanks TBone. This conversation is erring me towards gasoline... damn... but so it goes- this is why there is a conversation (thanks SCUBABoard :) )

Hi Kelemvor, you're not wrong, but I'd need at least 3 systems and training and easy access to medical O2 & charcoal. Our original planting site was at 12~15m depth for which rebreathers were in the conversation ...but for that up-front sticker-shock cost.
 
@seascaper gasoline is certainly much more convenient for any sort of extended run times.

12-15m depth is still well within hookahs capability, though you'd usually use one pump for 2 divers instead of 4. The cost of a pair of hookah's is still cheaper than a single new rebreather....
