    Buddy ditches the dive plan

Any time you are paired up with an insta-buddy, you are really just "diving alone, together".

    Buying Tanks

Reefraff, I just bought a brand new LP95 online. It was shipped to me with a VIP, the valve installed and a partial fill. I got it for at least $50 less (including shipping) than what they are going for at any of the LDS's in my area.

    Divers with Asthma

I have asthma and I dive too. My doctor and I talked about it at length before I went for my open water certification and his take was that I know my body better than anyone else and know when I should and should not be diving. As long as I use Advair on a daily basis, I never have a need for an...

    Aqualung's stance on e commerce

Here is how NetEnforcers say the scuba industry can stop gray market sales: Shut down all use of copyrighted images and text by gray market sellers. File lawsuits for continued copyright and trademark violations. Patent products, issue licenses to reseller and sue those that are selling...

    Aqualung's stance on e commerce

AquaLung's statement, "We were the first diving equipment manufacturer to employ Net Enforcers to assist in reducing “third party” or “grey market” shipments from unauthorized sources," made me curious, so I did a little Google search and found the following site...

    Aqualung's stance on e commerce

What I am hearing from AquaLung is just a bunch of hot air. If they are really committed to the LDS sales model, then what are they doing to stop gray market sales through places like LeisurePro? To me, they aren't doing much, because they make the same on regulators that are sold through an LDS...

    Question on equipment service

That is a very good point. So, since most regs are engineered to fail open (i.e. free-flow) and because serious accidents and deaths attributable to equipment failure are very rare, why don't the manufacturers provide divers the ability to service their own equipment by selling repair kits to...

    Question on equipment service

I guess one thing that I am trying to figure out is if scuba equipment is indeed life-support equipment, then why aren't the people providing repairs and service in some way certified and/or regulated? I know that some states like Florida have very specific regulations with regard to breathing...

    Question on equipment service

Sharkattack, Who provided your training? Did you get some kind of a certification at the end? I am trying to figure out what I should be looking for when I take my gear in for service. In the past, I just trusted that my LDS had properly trained people doing servicing the gear, but the more I...

    Question on equipment service

I read recently that one of the most common times that divers have problems with their equipment is right after they have it serviced. In particular, one of the most common times for a regulator to free-flow is right after it is serviced. Everyone talks about how scuba equipment is really "life...

    Annual inspection cost

I paid $150 recently to have my MK10, G250, R190 regs serviced. This included parts.

    Warranties on gray market sales

Mike, I would bet that product registration only applies to the limited warranty (i.e. free parts). If the product was defective, the manufacturer would be bound by the warranty to fix or replace it, regardless of whether or not it was registered by the owner.

I'm paying retail for equipment from LDS

Rob, You are correct that enforcing discounting policies is difficult, and smart LDS owners take advantage of that all the time. If I can only discount ScubaPro by 10%, what prevents me from bundling items (tanks, air fills, certification classes) with ScubaPro and discounting the entire...
