    Beware Ilike Liveaboard

Not all liveaboards raised prices for Covid rebookings. The Solomons Master honored the original price when I rebooked in 2022.

    Beware Ilike Liveaboard

I had a very unsatisfactory experience with the operations manager (OM) of Ilike and want to warn the diving community about his questionable business practices. I fully paid for a trip in 2020, which was canceled due to Covid, and was denied a refund, but allowed to reschedule when Indonesia...

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

There is an Italian group stuck in the Red Sea outside Port Sudan, unable to dive or leave the boat. They must get to Khartoum (at their own expense) for evacuation. Don't be stupid and try to travel! Cancel the trip.

Yellow Fever Medical Waiver Accepted In Egypt?

Egypt requires proof of a yellow fever vaccination for divers returning from Sudan. Due to the current shortage and age limit (<60), the yellow fever vaccine may not be available for senior travelers. However, an official medical waiver can be obtained from a doctor. Has anyone used the medical...

Siren - Southern Visayas - Anyone done it?

I did the Southern Visayas trip on the Siren last July/August. Very nice boat and outstanding dive operation, highly recommend it! Unfortunately, our trip was affected by the typhoon (high winds and rough seas for 3 days). Very good diving throughout the area, particularly at Apo Island and...

    One night in Port Moresby...

I stayed at Loloata Resort, about 20 minutes from the airport. Much cheaper than PM hotels and they provide transfers. Worth spending a few days diving there, too.

    Sodwana Bay / KZN

I went to South Africa/Moz several years ago. It was in early July for the Sardine Run. I stayed at Shelly Beach and dove at Protea Banks (saw some raggies, whales and dolphins). Not sure how that compares to Aliwal Shoals. I then drove to the border and stayed at Ponto Malongane. The...

    Rowley Shoals Trip Report

The diving wasn't exceptional, but I still enjoyed the trip. The Great Escape is a luxurious boat and the Aussie crew and guests made it a wonderful experience. Read all about it! Trip Report Rowley Shoals, Western Australia/Great Escape November 2008 Harry Kreigh/Sacramento, CA Summary...

    Trip Report: Seychelles/Aldabra_May08

Here is my trip report for the Indian Ocean Explorer. I was generally disappointed with the boat and diving in the Seychelles. It is a very expensive trip that requires extensive travel from the US. The Maldives is probably a better choice for diving in that region.

    Andaman Islands

The Ocean Rover is offering trips to the Andaman Islands in 2007 and 2008. Has anyone dived there? Are the divesites superior to those in Myanmar/Thailand? Is it worth the difficulty getting there (through India)?

    Tubbataha Liveaboards

I'm considering a trip to Tubbataha next April. Which of these boats (or others) do you recommend: Tristar, Stella Maris or Ocean Explorer. Looking for a comfortable, high-end boat, not crowded, with an outstanding dive operation. Thanks!

    Baggage Restrictions/Fees in Galapagos

I leave for the Galapagos in a month (going on PH Sky Dancer). Has anyone been there recently? Were you able to check 2 bags and take 2 carryons on the domestic flights? How strictly are they enforcing the baggage weight limits? How much were you charged for excess baggage? Thanks for the info!
