Rebuilding my own 2nd stages for the first time. Lever cycles, but regs don't give gas. No purge.

I hadn't actually checked that... Can you explain what that troubleshoots? However, I did just fix it! My dumb ass adjusted the spring ALLLLLLLLLL the way down. I'd still appreciate an explanation of them above, if you'd humor me. I'm still obviously very new to this, and want to learn...

Rebuilding my own 2nd stages for the first time. Lever cycles, but regs don't give gas. No purge.

As per title... I've got two Atomic M1s exhibiting the same problem. I've completely disassembled and reassembled them both multiple times, and this keeps happening. Very frustrated! My best guess is that I've somehow messed up the reassembly of the poppet/lever arrangement within the demand...

First post, first post-cert dive. Fiasco. Lessons learned from a comedy of errors.

I'm necroposting this for what I think is quite a good reason. This weekend, I finally achieved a GUE Fundamentals recreational pass. This happened largely because Lynne inspired me to do so, from my experiences with her as a new diver. She set me down an excellent path; I hope to pay it forward...

    Backup light recommendations

Relevant micro-threadjack... can someone please explain how one can establish that a given light is "underdriven"? A simpleton's definition would be thoroughly appreciated. More importantly, what performance advantages am I getting when I buy a backup from Halcyon et al. over, say, a DRIS 1000?

travel bcd, aqualung zuma vs zeagle covert

Not to be yet another guy saying "Screw them both and get a backplate" but... ...oh wait Yeah, do that. You'll never look back. They're caveman sample and nigh indestructible. From one noob to another, they're no harder to dive-actually, they're easier! After the first three dives, you'll...

Help! Looking for affordable or free weight in Vancouver, BC

Craigslist is your friend. There are always people ditching their barely-used gear. Also, this should probably be in the buy and sell section.

    TSandM -- Her Greatest Posts

It's not a post, but two fantastic quotes from a surface interval spent with Lynne... I wanted to put them somewhere while I still remembered them. This seemed like a fitting place.

    Travel BCD

I've fit my deepsea supply BP/W setup in a small carry-on bag many times. I have a 30 lb bladder, and it rolls up neatly to about the size of a large sweater. As the backplate is flattish, it's not much of an issue either. I'm quite comfortable with the weight of a steel plate, but if it's a...

TSandM: Missing Diver in Clallam County, WA

My mistake. I should've chosen my words more carefully.

TSandM: Missing Diver in Clallam County, WA

As I mentioned, I wholeheartedly agree that a FFM would have likely made almost no difference here. However, in future situations, I think the potential benefits of being able to precisely articulate a problem underwater / deal with buddy separation may be quite meaningful. There are certainly...

TSandM: Missing Diver in Clallam County, WA

The vertigo hypothesis strikes me as the least frustrating explanation outside of a cut-and-dry medical emergency, but even that would only be a contributing factor. Even with vertigo in play, however, I think Lynne probably would've had the bandwidth to at least signal that something was wrong...

TSandM: Missing Diver in Clallam County, WA

I had conversations with Lynne that specifically addressed breaking good trim in situations where it could prove overly complicated or dangerous. She wholeheartedly was in the camp of "Don't be bashful, do it!" While anything is possible, I doubt this scenario very much.

    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

I was one of those "ducklings." After a really bad introduction to Puget Sound diving, she offered to take me out and teach me a bit. Taking her up on that was one of the best decisions I've ever made. For those that never met her in person, she was brilliant. I got just as much from picking her...

TSandM: Missing Diver in Clallam County, WA

I was absolutely crushed to hear about this. Lynne was the mentor that got me back into diving after a disastrous introduction to Puget Sound. She was an amazing diver, and a wonderful human being. Peter, my heart goes out to you—I cannot imagine your loss. I cried like a baby, and I only...

First post, first post-cert dive. Fiasco. Lessons learned from a comedy of errors.

Hey guys. Long time no post. I thought some of you might be interested in the events that followed my messy first attempt. After an incredibly busy couple months, I was finally able to take TSandM up on her offer for a dive. The first attempt managed to get screwed again by my inflator...

You're right, I don't understand buoyancy control; After all, I'm totally new! Also, in my buddy's defense; he never told me to kick; in fact, he told me to stop. The kicking was my own idea, borne of frustration :P

^^ That's a perfectly justified response. However, I'm actually in quite good shape (I run 5+ miles a day at 5-6 minute pace), I'm just not used to the particular exertions of scuba diving, was slightly panicked and very frustrated (and thus breathing very quickly). Also, my buddies both had...
