    Mozambique

If your looking for a fun, cheap trip, then Tofo is the best bet. Vilanculos, bazaruto etc, is beautiful, there is a backpackers, and a couple of reasonably priced lodges, but if you stay on the mainland the dive site is a long boat ride away = more expensive. @ mile reef is the most amazing...

    Snorkelling in Moz

If you can, go to 2 mile reef off Benguerra Island, its the most amazing snorkelling! huge corals, fish everywhere, you dont need to dive there, just wear a tee shirt or something, I find it very hard to get out of the water there!

Tell us about your first time...

Good stuff! I was working in a very nice lodge in Mozambique, things were a little wild there, it was a hard 2 day drive to the border, where the nearest supermarket was, old tanks trucks etc burned out on the side of the road, and very scary police with big guns at every river crossing...

    Dive watch

I have a citizen dive watch, logs a couple of dives, has depth alarm, and most of the bits a proper dive computer has, most importantly large hands and a rotating bezel. The only small problem is on most of the dives if I get it wet too long before the dive (on a rough beach launch) by the time...

    going to look/buy a boat..advice

Most important thing is to find if you can get spares for the motor, Ive bought some cheapies, only to spend days trying to find bits, small outboards are usually very easy to maintain. Do you like getting your hands dirty? will the owner let you try it for a day or two?

    Ghana / Nigeria

I spent a year there, about 5 years ago, the sewerage system from Accra ran straight into the sea on the main beach! once you were out of town there were some amazing places, I only went snorkeling, and the viz wasn't great, the fishing is amazing though!

    s.a help needed!

Crimes not as bad as people make it out to be, just be careful, common sense is a wonderful thing. People will tell you what areas to avoid at what times, Hillbrow, Pretoria CBD after dark etc. From Pretoria it takes 6 hours to Durban, 15 hours easy drive including the border to Tofo. The...

    liveaboard in Africa

From the most places you would fly to Johannesburg, then the best option, and one of the most affordable is to charter a light plane. www.flyafrica.com commercial air travel in Mozambique is basic, but improving. I think it would be the boats responsibility to collect passengers from a...

    liveaboard in Africa

Hi All Ive been thinking about setting up a liveaboard operating off the coast of Mozambique. The rough plan is a boat to accommodate 12 divers comfortably, with the ability to go up to the north in the Pemba area, or out to sea to Bassas Da India. Pemba has dozens of islands, with all kinds of...

    Badly trained?

We used to get a lot of divers from lake Malawi, apparently the water is always calm, no currents, great viz etc. When they got to Mozambique it was a different story, raging currents, surge at 30m, scary launches. They had done all the skills, dives etc, but the training conditions were too...

    Tofo or Barra?

I would deinately dive from Tofo, they are closer to a lot of the reefs, lots of accommodation of all prices in town. Have a look at Tofo Scuba, (www.tofoscuba.co.za) best boats and equipment, generally the most professional dive centre in the area. have a blast. Ryan
