First timer, considering starting with Sony A1U and Equinox HD6 from B&H

Sorry, I made it sound like the monitor back was required ... I didn't realize this camera had the room to open the door in the HD6.

First timer, considering starting with Sony A1U and Equinox HD6 from B&H

I'm partial to Ikelite myself, but I have to admit they're based in my home town and I have friends there. With that said, the ability to see the LCD screen (even partially) is great. Question is whether or not you want to spend the extra dough to get a full screen on the back of your housing...

First timer, considering starting with Sony A1U and Equinox HD6 from B&H

I agree with diversteve, I'd stay away from the A1U, or anything shooting HDV tape. (I'm still shooting with my Sony Z1U & wish I had a solid state camera.) Anyway, I've recently seen some pretty great footage from a JVC Picsio. It's a tiny little HD camera, similar to the FlipHD. You can...

    Story board

While it is *possible* to shoot a 15 minute trip video without doing any post production editing, you have to have a really clear idea of what you want before you shoot the first frame. Essentially you are editing, you're just doing it in the camera every time you press the record button. I...

    Canon HF10/11 vs JVC HD-10

I'm curious why you say this specifically targeted at Ikelite's housings? I've always thought keeping any housing out of direct sun is a good idea.

Roatan Recompression Chamber / Dive Insurance

I agree with diversteve. Even if you don't need to take a ride in their chamber, it's a pretty cheap price to help them maintain it for the next diver who does need a ride. AKR is a great resort. You'll enjoy your trip. We stayed there when shooting our Roatan Video Guide DVD. Have fun.

Apple Mac Book Pro Question, Should I?

Yes buy a Mac. I'd caution against the 17" though. I've had both the 15 & 17 and I find the 17 too bulky for travel. Like others have suggested I'd have a larger display at home for real editing work. Oh, and I've never personally touched Vegas, but you should know Final Cut Pro isn't...

Wanted: Complete HD Video Package - Keeping Mind Open

What's your budget? I have a Sony Z1U + Gates housing + Green Force lights I'd consider selling.

    Canon HF S10 Wow!

Wow. That's pretty impressive. I'd be interested to know how much color grading was done in post.

    New to video

I've never used the Light Cannons for shooting video, but I have heard a lot of people have done just this with pretty good results. Personally, I use a pair of Green Force Squid 100 HID lights.

    Shark Dive-Roatan 2008

Video rookie - Nice video ... makes me want to go back. rythmmaker - this looks like exactly the same spot where I did this dive in 2006. As I recall, there were sort of two phases of this shark experience. At first they have all the divers stationary, but then after several minutes if all is...

    New to video

This is a great first underwater video! My advice would be ... when you think you are close enough to the fish, get closer. Also, do you have the option to manually focus? This would help in the shot of the divers giant striding in the beginning. Great job ... keep at it.

    New to video

If you're using lights with a lower color temperature, then you are right on to add a 1/4 blue or something along those lines to bump up the effective color temp. However, I think robin is right that the red filter on the cam + high color temp artificial light will yield bad results. I think...

Anything you want to know about professional U/W shooting

I know I'm coming late to this thread, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents ... My list of top 3 mistakes by beginners: 1. Poor buoyancy skills - I know that sounds like diving skill, not specifically video skill; however, poor buoyancy skills lead to a whole host of problems with shooting...

Anything you want to know about professional U/W shooting

It's been a few years since I was in the Galapagos, but I think you will find the sand will be close enough to white to get decent results. I know you said you don't want to carry anything extra ... have you considered a slate with an arm that could attach to your housing ... like this one from...

How Do Divers Travel With Gear and Video Camera?

When I'm working I travel with the Sony Z1U & Gates housing. We just have to bite the bullet and pay for extra bag charges. There's just no way around it. Although, on the last trip we tried renting some dive gear at the resort to cut down on luggage. Not sure that's worth the hassle...
