    Current Curacao water temps

The vest and hood will serve you well. Just got back on Jan. 3 and had water temps in the 78 -80F range. Was very comfy with 3mm wetsuit and hooded vest, and I get cold easily too. Remember, Warm=comfortable, Comfortable = using less air, using less air=more bottom timeand more bottom time means...

    Mask fit & leakage

I did the math, you aren't as young as you used to be. With a reg in your mouth or perhaps being just a little tense those wrinkles or lines are causing the leak. Keep trying, all of the info above is helpful. Stay away from a mask skirt that is stiff and maybe stick with low volume masks. I...

    Transportation Regulations

I have carried all of my dive gear in checked luggage on about a dozen trips since 9-11. Knock on wood nothing has been missing. Ditto what domino says about the camera. Tsa has looked in my checked bags almost every time and hand inspected my camera bag more than half of the time. Itry to keep...

First of all Thanks! to all who responded. I guess I know what direction I will go. I have heard good things about Blue XTsea and Aldora and will investigate them further. Any comments on them? Again, thanks.

    Blotchy Canon Housing

I am not familiar with Canon products,(Nikon shooter) but if the problem you are having is on plastic, clear or acrylic take a look at www.micro-surface.com kit number NC 78-1. I have used it on my acrylic dome port and other parts of the housing. Follow the instructions. It works. Removes...

Diving So Cal beginning Aug. 6

Diving So Cal beginning Aug. 6 My wife, stepson and I will be in San Diego Wednesday then driving up to Irvine for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The itinerary is due to conferences and family concerns, but we should have time for between 3 and 6 shore dives during our stay. Does anyone have...

Any pros to having a black skirt?

If you're a photographer the clear skirt allows light in from the side which greatly interferes with what you see in the viewfinder.

    Curiosity question

I have told sudents that are nervous about a particular skill to take a few seconds and visualize exactly what is supposed to happen when performing a skill just before doing it. It seems to help. You will do fine, Good Luck.

    Alpha "Dive" Flag

I applaud your research and desire to fly the flags properly. I wish those looking at the flags from other boats would research their meaning and abide by those rules. I think you should reconsider diving from a boat where no one is left aboard, when things go bad on a dive they generally go...

Housing, Lenses, And Lights For Canon 30D

The best thing to so is look at housing websites and get a handle on how much you're willing to spend. Sea and Sea and Ikelite offer good mid priced housings and you may find that your lenses are compatible. I am a Nikon shooter using a 12-24 mm zoom for WA and a 60mm for macro and you may want...

    Leaking housing

If it has been a year and you are sure you are very careful with O-ring maintenance it may be time to get new o-rings. If you have time I would suggest having it thoroughly serviced at Canon or a reputable sevice center. Every button and knob is a potential leak and unless you are very confident...

    Pony bottle vs. Spare Air?

My personal contribution( i.e. $.02and maybe not worth anymore) when this question arises, and it may have already been said, is that whenever I hear stories of thingS gone wrong underwater it's rarely just one thing. Its typically more than one thing going wrong at the same time and for that I...

    19 or 30 cubic feet?

Since the idea of a pony is emergency air and when things go wrong it's usually more than one thing going wrong at the same time I would suggest opting for a 30 or 40 cube. I mount a 40 with "Super Pony Tamer". It does affect trim a bit but it is comforting to know the air is there. You should...
