    Hoping for some insight :)

Hi Amanda, My wife and I live on Utila and have spent considerable time on Roatan as we have our bests friends who have a home there. Your description of what you are looking for describes Utila, NOT Roatan. Roatan is a large island 25-30 miles long with one two lane road from one end to the...

Detroit to San Pedro Sula with Continental Airlines??

You have every right to be concerned but my wife and I have had many trips with less than an hour in Houston and 95% of the time all bags make it. If you are bringing dive gear take your reg and mask in your carry on along with a couple pair of shorts/Tee as here you can survive nicely with very...

    Utila Lodging

DiverSteve makes good points with regards to Utila Resorts and his analysis is fairly accurate. There is shore diving here however, particularly on the East side of the island where there are many dive sites available from shore. He is correct about Utila Lodge being in town and LB being where...

Christmas warm water trip, need some help/advice

Right now you will be hard pressed to find diving cheaper than Utila, the Bay Islands, Honduras. Consider you can get fun dives 10 for $250.US and the water temp will be 80+ degrees. You can bunk up at many of the dive operations for as little as $3.00 a night and beer is $1 a bottle.

Anyone stayed at Mango-Inn, Utila before?

Hi, I live on Utila and can give you some input. Mango Inn is located away from the harbour and beaches and is a very nice place to stay but it is not a traditional "Resort" as you have to be transported to and from Mango to their dive operation at UDC. There are a few "Dive Resorts" here...

Utila in January!! Looking for Apartments and Connections!

Hi, I appreciate the above comments but wanted to add a few things. I live on Utila year-around and January thru March is the busiest time on Utila. Although this fall has been slow it will most likely pick-up after the first of the year and finding long-term housing may be more interesting...

    Cenotes vs. Utila - September

If you give an idea of what king of accommodations you are looking for I can give you some input but need to know what you want (room, 1 br apt, studio, AI_ etc. You can also go to Utila Official Site - Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras - Tropical Island Paradise and get great info. Let me know if I...

    How safe to visit Honduras?

Hi There, I am one of the U.S. Embassy Wardens on Utila and I can assure you it is quite safe to travel to the Bay Islands. The current Embassy warnings are simply a political ploy and you will find that most of the media is sensationalism! I agree with the other members that it is easier...

    Cenotes vs. Utila - September

Hi there, My wife and I live on Utila and have done so for 4 years. I am also a U.S. Embassy Warden for the island and can assure you there are absolutely no security issues on any of the Bay Islands; life is as it has always been. I can not address your other possibilities but can speak to...

    Utila Shore Dives

Hi, My wife and I live on Utila on the East side at Paradise Cove and yes, there are several places where you can shore dive. Tank rental is $6.00 per tank and they will loan you weights at no additional charge. As Rob says above, you can shore dive at the old airport and for that matter all...

    Roatan, Utila, Belize, or Cozumel?

A couple of additional thoughts for you IF you are still considering Roatan or Utila. I live on Utila but have been to Roatan many, many times. I agree with DiverSteve on almost all he says with a couple exceptions. Roatan is a great place but it will be considerably more expensive than...

Am now a little worried about Utila trip please help

Dear DandyDon, I only mentioned that I was a U.S. Embassy Warden because I am feed information daily from the Embassy and also have talked with them almost every day since last Sunday. You may also have this kind of interaction with them as well but I think it is helpful to have daily...

Am now a little worried about Utila trip please help

I want to add that the comments made by me above are my personal feelings and should not in any way be considered a US Government or Embassy position. I do NOT speak in any way for the U.S. government and am a volunteer only!

Am now a little worried about Utila trip please help

Hi there, I am the U.S. Embassy Warden for the Island of Utila and live full time here on Utila. First, you have every right to be concerned and if I was listening to the US and World Media I would be worried also. First, this was not a military Coup! It was the army acting upon a...

URGENT LIFE AND DEATH Missing Boat

Ok, I asked for the nationality of the missing person becuase I am a Warden for the US Embassy and if he is American you may be able to seek assistance from the US Government which obviously has extensive air assets in Honduras. I got the picture of the boat and candidly, it is unlikely that...

URGENT LIFE AND DEATH Missing Boat

Hi, I am on the island of Utila and I would recommend you contact the Port Captain on Roatan and have him notify the Port Captain on Utila. The seas are fairly rough at the moment coming out of the East so you are correct he would drift to the West but might well go right by Utila. What is the...

For Divers which is better Utila? or Roatan?

Hi All, Just a heads up on Apartments on Utila. We don't offer a Cothes Drier but do have a tenant washing machine with lines in the shade and sun. All our units are one bedroom (1 double or 2 single beds), one bath (shower and bathtub), unlimited hot and cold water, WiFI, Cable TV, full...

For Divers which is better Utila? or Roatan?

Hi there, Main differences are cost and size. Utila is very small and you can get anywhere in a matter of minutes where Roatan is 25 miles long and has one 2 lae road from end to end usually very busy. I live on Utila and travel to Roatan and you will find cost differences of roughly 33% to...
