Big currents, not as many fish or coral as Cozumel, but still a neat drift dive and neat grottos along the shore around 40-50 ft.

I am living in Playa del Carmen (I have benn living here 4 yrs) and I have been diving as lot around the Riviera Maya. I work as PADI instructor and cenote guide down here and I just hope my comments can help you during your vacation. Cozumel for sure is a great wall dive and I would suggest you to contact Blue Angel Dive shop and go diving one day there to enjoy Cozumel. Akumal is great. Nice canyons and multilevel dives even if less fishes than in other areas.
Playa del Carmen is nice too at least for 2 specific dives (Tortugas/tarpoon and Motche Profundo or ISlote Profundo/Mediano).
Do not forget the cenote diving (cavern diving) and the reef of Porto AVenturas. Enjoy your diving!
