Hi! I live in Hernando county Florida, near Tarpon Springs, Crystal River, north of Tampa and I was looking for advice on the best damn instructor around these parts... please help

lastly, is being a smoker contraindicated for divers?
thanks, and yeah, i know I should quit....

You answered your own question about smoking, lol, but many still do smoke. I wish you luck with quitting.

My wife and I took our rescue course at this shop outside of Tampa (New Port Richey on US 19) near where you asked about. Very nice folks and good instruction. Have fun! Tell them Jason and Becky from NY sent ya! Welcome to the board!

I took my open water & nitrox class at Depth Perception Dive Center (http://www.depthperception.com/). I had a great instructor named Bob Brooks. He's a Padi and Naui instructor for a couple of the dive shops in Tampa. Another good instructor is Ed from Calypso Divers (http://www.calypsodiversinc.com/). Both are nice guys, very knowledgeable, and have been diving for a very long time.
