I live in Texas and am more of an international diver, but I have family and friends in Ft. Myers. Is there anything good around there divewise? I'm willing to drive several hours if you have any not so close recommendations.

Thanks,
Michelle

I've had some good dives off the coast on the gulf side off shore from
Fort Myers. Charters are tough to find and most times it's a special trip
as opposed to regularly scheduled trip. Up near Clearwater the diving off
shore can be pretty decent as well. By off shore I don't mean shore diving,
rather out a ways 20-25 miles. The shore diving in the Venice is hit or miss.
One day may be 15-20 ft. viz and the next time out less than 5 ft. If you
leave Fort Myers by 8:30 you would be able to make most of the afternoon
trips with 12:30 departures in Fort Lauderdale or Pompano.

These guys are pretty much right on.

  • Most Ft Myers offshore dive sites are a good 2-hour boat ride. Viz is a crapshoot. Temps are OK.
  • Ft. Lauderdale is a 2-hour car ride, + a 15 min boat ride. Viz is usually excellent, water's warmer, and there are many more dive charters available.
However, to support my local economy, I will be sure post any Ft Myers/Gulf dive trips that I hear about! :coffee:
